Learning Style and Strategies Science and technology have made learning easier than in the past. People use technology such as YouTube and google to learn. Everyone has their unique style of learning. According to Romanelli et al. (2009) “ the definition of “learning styles” is “characteristic cognitive, effective, and psychosocial behaviors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how learners perceive, interact with, and respond to the learning environment” ( para. 3). Learning style is the way person absorb and understand the material. These are four sensory approach of learning style. According to the VARK’s learning style, the individual’s learning style was visual 43%, kinesthetic 25%, aural 18%, and reading/writing 14%. Learning is multi-dimensional, there isn’t one specific way of learning. But, the primary learning style of this individual is visual learning style. “A visual learning style requires that you see what you want to learn” ("Houghton College," 2016, para. 1). Visual learners acquire the learning faster by seeing the material. Conversely, auditory learners learn better by hearing information. Now a days educators use strategies based on research evidence to teach their students. “Awareness of individual learning styles among first year MBBS students and the use of an externally regulated strategy for enhancing learning helped students adapt to other learning strategies. This enhanced the use of better learning practices and, therefore, better learning outcomes” (Bhagat, Vyas, & Singh, 2015, para. 41). The teaching style has change from teacher centered learning to a student centered learning. Students who are aware of their learning strategy are found to be doing better in study because they were able to utilize their learning strategy and also other learning strategies. For an example- A visual learner was able to adapt to aural and kinesthetic learning strategy. Ultimately, it improved the learning outcome. Learning strategy awareness not only helped students, but it also helped teachers to tailor the teaching material according to students learning strategy.
