It is so tremendous that we as citizens have the power to make decisions for ourselves and the social good. Those are the kinds of ideals of this modern democracy that our founding fathers wanted for all; basically a country for the people, by the people. Democracy is not a very complicated principle, but it is a simple thing that affects our everyday life, no matter how trivial the event. We as a democratic country try and strive for the basic social good. This means that this concept primarily looks out for the welfare and satisfaction of every individual who falls under that government.
America the Country of the people, the land of the free where everyone is entitled rights and responsibilities that are vital in order to preserve their nations democratic government. The freedom to pursue life, liberty, and happiness, Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others, and also the freedom to express oneself. Those are just to name a few. Each of these has an importance in their government in order to maintain a vigorous nation. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, which among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” — (The United States Declaration of Independence) To begin with, in order to pursue Life a person must have rights to the basic essentials such as food, water, and shelter to survive.
Peace is an important part because it asks a simple question to everybody, “can peaceful communities prevail without seeking justice and equality all the time?” Government has the responsibility to structure society and encourage virtuous behavior (Lao Tzu). The necessity of peace and justice is vital as it can cause the government and societies to tumble into chaos. The thought of having peace can create new ideas and can truly lead to new experiences this world has yet to discover. It would be unique watching different cultures mingling and sharing ideas with each other, without any fear. That is a vision that is yet to be
But embracing the title “American” means you actually get to live, enjoy and experience this profound freedom for yourself. Being American means you have the right to serve any God you please, and even no God if you prefer; being American means you have the right and power to say exactly what you feel and act upon it if need be; being American means you have a voice in the way your country is ran. Compared to other countries such as Iraq and Zimbabwe they do not embrace such freedom and rights because of dictatorship. Luckily, we are entitled these rights by the help and encouragement of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and his most valued assertion written, The Social Contract. Without these important idea the society we know and cherish with the fancy technology and many other things would crumble to pieces. The America we know and live in has a group of people above us who seek justice and what is best for the citizens. This is our government, since its founding, they has promised to protect us and to have its best interests at heart. Somethings in our system are debatable while other should remain just the way they are. Insanity defense is one topic that is often argued much about because of its moral concern. Should a person committing a crime go straight to jail or receive treatment if they have a mental disease?
Therefore, in order to protect the future people of their beautiful country, they promised certain liberties which could not be taken away. Every single one of these freedoms is important for the United States of America. However, the second amendment is especially important to our nation because it allows the people to protect their freedom and defend themselves and the common good against an overreaching government. One reason we must have the second amendment is to protect the freedom for which our country fought so hard to win. The Declaration of Independence states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” However, if these rights were ‘self-evident’, why did the founding fathers need to grant them to the states?
Locke expressed the ideal that men are created equal and nevertheless men will flourish with independence and freedom, “no one having more than another” (Locke 101). In this way, Locke believes that an individual should have the capability to find happiness through equality and human freedoms. Even with these naturally positive and good qualities, Locke believes that there are potential for bad tendencies within man. With this possibility for negative attributes, a government is essential to protect them from themselves and to guarantee that equality will prosper. He introduces the main ideas that govern a community, “Life, Liberty and Property” (Locke 101).
The definition of a just society can be described as a society with equality and solidarity where everyone is treated the way they deserve to be treated. The government today has control over the people to avoid chaos but tries their best to best serve its people. People in society deserve to be treated fairly based off their natural rights of being human. The Declaration of Independence states that the consent of the govern is applied to serve its citizens with the best laws and regulations to keep the people in a state of contempt and delectation. Governments are supposed to protect and give the people of a nation the rights and justice they deserve with the consent of the governed.
The government must protect the safety of its people and protect itself from internal revolutions and external invasions. Also, it attempts to improve the general welfare of its people by resolving collective dilemmas, minimizing negative externalities and providing collective goods wherever possible. To do this, the government must specify and enforce the rights and duties of its people.
