At times, human beings need order. A part of this need for order stems from the desire to live in a peaceful society. To ensure order within a society, the creation and enforcement of rules and laws must be present. The enforcement of laws is the responsibility of a justice system. The purpose of a justice system is to ensure that all individuals receive fair treatment. However, at times justice systems can fail and lead to the oppression of certain individuals. Individuals must either endure the oppression, or choose to seek justice. Although individuals may choose to seek justice to escape the shackles of oppression, the act to seek justice may diminish growth and maturity. In society, the separatist movement in Ukraine is evidence that the act to seek justice can diminish growth and maturity. In Ukraine, both separatist and nationalist groups engage in open rebellion to seek justice for what they deem unfair. The separatists believe that Crimea rightfully belongs to the Russian Federation, whereas the nationalists believe that Crimea is a part of Ukraine. The violent protests culminate in destruction, loss of life, and turmoil. The consequences of the rebellion lead both sides to suffer, experience distress and endure hardship. Although, the results of the Independence referendum support the views of the separatists, neither the international community nor Ukraine accept the referendum as legitimate. Therefore, both sides continue to confront each other in open rebellion to seek justice. What are some actions at play that can diminish growth and maturity when individuals choose to seek justice? In some cases it is true that actions can diminish growth and maturity when individuals seek justice. Three actions through which grow... ... middle of paper ... ...ederick Douglass’ No Struggle, No Progress elucidates that under the rule of absolute power, individuals lack freedom from oppression and cannot be free unless they endure hardship. In the process to become free from oppression “[m]en may not get all they pay for / in this world, but they pay for all they get. / If we ever get free / from the oppressions and wrongs heaped on us, / we must pay for their removal. / We must do this / by labour, / by suffering, / by sacrifice, / and if needs be / by our lives and the lives of others” (Douglass 24-34). The suffering due to the absence of freedom when individuals seek justice through the attainment of absolute power can diminish growth and maturity, as oppression leads to the mistreatment of individuals. Therefore, growth and maturity can diminish when individuals seek justice through the attainment of absolute power.
The main purpose of the legal system is to provide the community with a set of rules to provide and maintain order within society. Legislation, the criminal justice system and the way in which we deal with criminal activity is constantly changing as we are discovering more efficient ways of handling these crimes in order to meet the needs of all stakeholders involved (Ochoa 2013). The criminal justice system we employ today is designed to determine the guilt or innocence of an accused person through
why juveniles should be tried as adults is to ensure equality of the law before citizens. In order to promote this concept, Californian Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Conner once blindfolded herself before a civil case. When O' Conner was asked to explain her action, she replied that the law is blind before its citizens. According to Liptak, Justice Antonin Scalia explained that "the drop in juvenile death sentences was proof that juries could be trusted to sort and weight evidence about the defenders
The earliest vagrancy laws in England paved the way for today’s criminal law. These first laws lead to the creation of criminal law. Criminal law and the origin of vagrancy laws have created lasting ramification for today’s criminal justice system. The very creation of the laws by the elitist members of society to control the masses has highlighted the continue path of these trends. The laws are designed to control the poor and keep them from disturbing or inconveniencing those who maintain social
Of all the justice systems four ways to deal with youth crime I personally feel that the balanced and restorative justice model works the best of them all. The reason I feel that way is because I honestly feel this model is made to truly make a difference in the lives of the juveniles. The premise of this model is to give offender the opportunity to right their wrongs and redeem themselves in the eyes of not only their communities but, most importantly their own eyes. Also, this justice model aims
What is the purpose of the criminal justice system? According to the official Ministry Of Justice website - [www.justice.gov.uk] there is a clear objective that the criminal justice system hopes to fulfil: “The purpose of the Criminal Justice System... is to deliver justice for all, by convicting and punishing the guilty and helping them to stop offending, while protecting the innocent.”, and this isn’t just applicable in the UK, many other countries and areas of the world operate to a similar objective

In this essay I will endeavour to outline what the intended purpose of tort law is in the Irish legal system and how it has come about over centuries. I will include a brief outline of the meaning of tort law and the different kinds of Tort, I will also include a brief summary of the sister laws of tort, that being criminal and contract law. What is the ideal purpose of punishing criminals, how do we know when punishment has been adequately served, what would be an appropriate, morally justifiable punishment for Raskolnikov, and why? Elbert Hubbard said, "We are punished by our sins, not for them." Prince Machiavelli created the Machiavellian code where he stated the "Eye for an eye" principle. What is the purpose of punishment? Why does human kind feel it necessary to punish wrong-doers? Hubbard believed that punishment is not necessary
The problem of the correct legal response to crime has produced passionate discussions within the study of criminology. The classical theories of justice present consistent legal action of all offenders who have committed identical crime while emphasising the notion of punishment as deterrence. Opposing this is the theory of the positivist school, which denies punishment as a preventative measure and instead promotes the rehabilitation of offenders through the recognition that each offender is an

The Nigeria Juvenile Justice System is the country that I chose to focus on while presenting my term paper. In this paper, I will discuss six main points to give an overview of how Nigeria disciplines juveniles in their country: the country’s juvenile justice system, when their system started, the laws protecting the children 's programs for juveniles who are in conflict with the law, the sanctions for juveniles and recommendation of how juveniles should be treated in that country.
