Pollen from a successful GM crop, Bt-corn, was found that it killed larvae of monarch butterflies, which are good for the environment. A gene from a bacterium, bacillus thuringiensis, has modified bt- corn. It makes the plant tissue toxic to resist a pest, which is hard to remove with chemicals. It's harmless to humans and other creatures (such as bees and ladybirds) however it's deadly to the larvae because it feeds of the leaves of the Bt-corn (milkweed). I believe the technology involved in producing genetically enhanced/altered crops or livestock will be much too expensive for the average farmer to afford.
One way that genetically modified foods are hurting our environment is that process can involve the exchange of genes between two totally different species. People are actually putting scorpion toxin into corn and fish antifreeze into tomatoes (De Greef). These changes in the plants make the plant able to with stand the attack of pests and weather, but it is still possible that the plant’s DNA will cross and make bad toxins. If a farmer plants a crop that has the resistance to herbicides, drought, cold, and pests those plants can eventually cross with weeds and then the farmer will end up with weeds that are resistant to everything too. Then the scientists will end up having to make the plants stronger to fight off the weeds, then the weeds will get stronger, and the cycle will keep on going.
Even though genetically modified organisms were created to grow more food there are negative aspects to these types of crops that are harmful to humans and animals. Therefore GMO’s should be studied more because there are positive impacts but harmful side effects. Genetically modified organisms is an organism whose genetic material has been changed using genetic engineering techniques. Organisms that have been genetically modified include microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. GMO’s are the source of genetically modified foods, and are also widely used in scientific research and to produce goods other than food.
Hybrid crops are plants whom breed with other plants producing a better offspring, for the consumtion of the consumer. Genetically Modified Foods are plants that have had their DNA tampered or mixed with another gene or chemical, producing a brand new strand of DNA. It is believed that when mixing the DNA and genes in Genetically Modified Foods is that, it will create a better nutritious long lasting fruit or plant for the consumer. Producing new strands of DNA can be deadly, as it can produce wild outcomes that may not be able to be controlled. What the unknown is that, the consequences maybe deadly to the consumer, it is unknown how the human body can react the tampered food.
Religious people believe we should not tamper with what god created. Should we be carrying out research into an area many people feel strongly against? These are the kinds of moral questions we should consider before we take this any further, although scientists are proceeding with research without fully considering the beliefs of other people, believing they are doing is right. Surely we should be seriously considering the implications of our actions involving genetic engineering, as the next breakthrough could be tomorrow.

Another reason why GM crops are inadequate is because it can decrease biodiversity of plants and crops, and it can destroy rare species of plants. It can harm organisms that you might not mean to kill.

Some believe that there is a possibility that crops transformed with genes that increase pest resistance could harm essential pollinators such as bees and butterflies. On the other hand some fear that pest will become resistant to pesticide that are engineered into crops.
