Smoking ban is one of the issues that many of West Virginia University are facing. This ban was stated as the policy number 57 under the name of tobacco free campus. Since smoking is starting to be a very global problem that all people from all over the world are facing, WVU wanted to keep their students healthy and try to reduce the smoking habit on the college students. So that means that the purpose of this policy is to make a rule that stops the students from using tobacco products at WVU campus or any place that is owned by the university. The policy states that people as students, employees and any member of WVU community are not allowed to use tobacco products (West Virginia University board of governors, 2010). This smoking ban is an understandable step that WVU has made in order to keep their students healthier. However, there are a percentage of the students whom are smokers and would try to resist
They refuse to follow the ban policy because they believe that this policy is controlling them and does not allow them to smoke wherever they want. In fact, some of the students stated that it is better to look for other universities where they can smoke wherever they wanted (Bosserman, 2013). They say that their health is their property and they are free to do whatever with their health ignoring the effect of the secondhand smoking. Looking at the issue from the health view it can said that smoking ban is a good diction that WVU has made to improve or at least to reduce the bad effect of the smoking or tobacco products. Due to them caring about their students health it is hoped that the smokers students would respect the idea behind the smoking ban and respect the policy and stop smoking around the campus.
