As a teenager, one would think of hanging out with friends, shopping at the mall, going to high school football games and just living a carefree life full of fun. However, ending up pregnant at the age of 17 changed everything. The life of a single mom at age 17 consists of wearing many hats in order to take care of her children as she must utilize her time wisely in order to care for her children, attend high school and work a job to take care of the home. Being pregnant and attending high school was very challenging. Facing my peers at school was tough, as my pregnancy was usually the topic of conversation. At times I did not know what to say when questioned about my pregnancy. Most days I would keep my head down so I didn’t have to talk during school as I just wanted to go unnoticed. I was ashamed of my situation. In dealing with my emotions and the peer pressure I was feeling at school, I decided I would just drop out of high school. Unfortunately, this seemed to be the best option for me at the time. After dropping out of school there were so many days and hours to think about my situation. Now I had to figure out how to care for my child, attend school, and do homework. Returning to school while having a newborn would mean sleepless nights and a few free hours to get it all done. I would have to rely on family and friends for childcare whenever possible in order to do homework or just to get rested for school. It was a blessing to have my family as a support system during all of this. Failing at this point was not an option for me. I decided to reenter high school after missing 3 semesters and all I could think about was how am I going to get all my required credits and graduate on time with my
