(C.Darwin, 1859) Two notable scientists associated with the theory of evolution include Charles Darwin and Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. Charles Darwin contributed majorly to the evolutionary theory and was the first to consider the concept of natural selection. The evolutionary theory states that evolutionary change comes through the production of genetic variation in each generation and survival of individuals with different combinations of these characters. Individuals with characteristics which increase their probability of survival will have more opportunities to reproduce and their offspring will also benefit from the heritable, advantageous characteristic. So over time these variants will spread through the population.

He introduces the scientific theory of evolution and suggests that species have evolved over a period of many generations through a process called natural selection. Darwin's theories have created much controversy among his colleagues and led to great amounts of debate. However, the massive amount of criticism directed at Darwin convinced him to make to revisions.

This theory has lead scientists into unending debates due to lack of empirical supports. Until the mid-eighteenth century, when Charles Darwin came up with an explanation to evolution, scientists, then, began to endorse this hypothesis. In “Natural Selection,” Darwin explains the natural selection, a plausible mechanism that causes evolution, to gain approval of his cynical audience for his evolution theory. He supports his claim with numerous examples of animals and plants that have developed traits beneficial for survival.
Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection, a scientific theory that supported the belief of evolution, was manipulated and applied to different areas of life, and thus it became the shaping force in European thought in the last half of the nineteenth century. Darwin, through observation of organisms, determined that a system of natural selection controlled the evolution of species. He found that the organisms that were most fit and assimilated to the environment would survive. They would also reproduce so that over time they would eventually dominate in numbers over the organisms with weaker characteristics. This new theory was radical and interesting to the scientific world but its effects reach far beyond this small institution of intellectuals.

Lamarck's views on inheritance of characteristics can be seen in Darwin's accounts of natural selection. When Lamarck wrote of transmutation, Darwin followed with his beliefs of the mutability of species. As well, Darwin had used Lamarck's ideas on use and disuse of organs.
Natural selection is the process in which heritable traits that make it more likely for organisms to survive and successfully reproduce become more common in a population over successive generations. Each of us individuals is specifically shaped and formed by our own genetic pattern. We inherit this pattern half from are mother and half from are father. The cause of this is the proximate cause that led it’s phenotype to ultimate causes. Much of we know today about evolution derives from the late great pioneer, Charles Darwin.
The naturalists, although rooted in religious beliefs and explanations of the world, were the pioneers of evolutionary science because they began to look for explanations that were not found in religious texts. They explored the natural world. In today’s world, physical anthropologists focus on human variation in order to determine what factors into the physical and genetic variation of humans. In 1859 British scientist Charles Darwin published one of the most important and controversial books of all time widely known as the On the Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection. It became one of the greatest accomplishments of science during the 19th century. The work of Darwin revolutionized natural science and biology and influenced other scientific areas as well. Evolution began to stretch beyond science and was accounted for the raise of a new conflict with religion, causing doubt among common people and anger between scholars and the clergy.

Through evolution and natural selection many species, including humans, are here today. Charles Darwin founded the principle of natural selection, which describes how organisms that adapt better in an environment will survive better and produces more offspring (Natural, 2004). Darwin first noticed evolution after being on the Galápagos Islands; here, he noticed that geological separation played an important role on how organisms adapted and formed new species (College, 2009).
Tanner (2008) states that “Psychologists are interested in what human traits make some people more successful than others. This is based largely on Darwin’s idea of natural selection where the strongest, adaptive, or creative species survive and others do not.” Furthermore, natural selection is a strong factor in deciding the biological aspects of personality. Sociobiology is an extremely important part of evolutionary study. Friedman & Schustack (2010) state that “Sociobiology is the study of the influence of evolutionary biology on an organism’s responses regarding social matters” (p. 139). Sociobiology includes a rewarding process in which an infant will do certain things to impress his or her mother and the mother will in turn reward the infant.
