Immigration has been a key factor of the success of the United States from the start. More specifically, without the influence of immigrants our country would not be the place that it is today. There is, however, great controversy surrounding the idea that immigration, whether legal or illegal, should be accepted or denied. Since the beginning of time, immigration has played a large role in the history of the United States. Immigration to the U.S. has been a popular desire since before the world wars (Archiv 141). The desire continues even today. One of America's most influencial leaders, George Washington, said: The bosom of America is open to recieve not only the opulent and respectable stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all …show more content…
There are two sides to this specific factor but really both benefit the United States. In the United States there are many jobs that require intense labor or do not pay enough, therefore the jobs do not get fullfilled. This hurts the U.S. because there is no one to get the job done. However, when immigrants get to our country they will often take what ever job that they can find. They will also work for less than an American would get paid. In some cases, race and education determine how much an immigrant will be paid ( Chiswick 71). Thus the job is filled and the country is better off because of …show more content…
Without influences of food from other countries, our plating would be rather dull. America is not a very healthy country either, so we benefit from studies on other countries food intake. Our country is known as "The Melting Pot" for a reason. We do have a great desire for entertainment. Other countries also provide us with many sources of entertainment. The America that we know today is filled with cultural influences, whether we realize it or not. Things such as food and entertainment are major contributers to our daily lives. Many of the dishes that we eat are that of Italian or Mexican origin. Many of the t.v. and music icons of today are British or Asian. For example, Adele has made her singing career quite a success in America though she is from England. If we did not have any cultural diversity, we would miss out on what the rest of the world has to offer us. As one can see, the United States is an important place of diversity and multiculturalism. Without immigration it would not be the place that it is today. The United States is dependent on immigration to help it flourish. Jobs that would normally not be filled, are filled and for less pay. Immigrants are passionate about what they do and want to have a better life. If we continue to allow them to come live in America, we will continue to see a positive cultural

There is no denying that immigration will always be a factor in the development of the United States. Whether it is due to religious beliefs, economic problems or even war in their native country, emigrants will always come to America with hopes of starting a new life in the “Land of the Free”. Fortunately, the people who do choose to legally migrate to America are generally motivated for success and well-educated. Even the immigrants who are not well educated are motivated to succeed, work hard and take jobs in areas where labor forces are low or jobs that a native-born American may not even consider, effectively making them a contributing member of society.
“America gave the world a notion of the melting pot-an alchemical cooking device wherein diverse ethnic and religious groups voluntarily mix together, producing a new, American identity…” Ivan Krastev wrote this about the true culture of America which the supports the idea of unity. While some people believe that America is turning into a salad bowl it can be argued that it is still a melting pot because every culture in the world is already present in ours. A salad bowl culture is a culture that excels in individuality, so much so, that there isn’t true unity unlike a melting pot where everything is combined. Many people claim it’s safer if not more helpful to assimilate and embracing diversity or the presence of it, creates unity which is the goal of a melting pot.
Second of all, immigrants are taking jobs in the United States, but they are taking the jobs that Americans do not want because of the pay and extraneous hard labor. Most immigrants work in factories, small businesses, or farms. One thing that I disagree with is that the illegal immigrants have a good and bad effect to the economy and the country. For example in the new we mostly hear about some of the illegal immigrants are committing a crime and not applying for visa. Sometimes they even still others social security numbers. Illegal immigrants some not all sometimes bring drugs into the USA which I think is the most dangerous thing they can do besides kill. One problem in today 's society is people view all immigrants as labor workers. People tend to believe that immigrants "threaten" American life by causing unemployment. Employers think that they are doing us a big favor by hiring immigrants for under wage and not hiring people that are born in the USA cause we do not like to be worked for under the state law of minimum
Immigrants have proven effective in U.S Economy. “Immigrants have founded venture-backed public companies are worth more than $500 billion and employ an estimated 220,000 people in the U.S“("10 Harmful Misconceptions About Immigration." Www.equalrightcenter.org. Equal Right Center, 2008. Web.) As the economy of the U.S has been growing, without immigrants the country wouldn 't be able to fulfill its labor force necessities, therefore, we would have a decline where there is too much to be done with not enough people to work. Also, the immigrant community would take on any job offered, which is basically the leftovers, or what the Native Born Americans didn 't want to do. Even the ones who sought greater power, such as opening their owns businesses still needed help learning the duties where they would hire Native born Americans or American companies to teach them how to run the business. Yes, the Immigrants were taken jobs, but they were also providing white collar jobs for the native
America is known famously throughout the world with the nickname 'The melting pot.' The reason behind this is that America is extremely diverse and has many different people. Immigrants give America the chance to know the culture of many countries. They bring in their culture, religion, economic benefits, and ideology to America. I believe that the United States should allow legal immigrants from all over the world because they bring many benefits to it. Immigrants are a positive influence on United States of America.
Immigration can be defined as passing foreigners to a country and making it their permanent residence. Reasons ranging from politics, economy, natural disasters, wish to change ones surroundings and poverty are in the list of the major causes of immigration in both history and today. In untied states, immigration comes with complexities in its demographic nature. A lot of cultural and population growth changes have been witnessed as a result of immigration. In the following paper, I will focus on how immigration helps United States as compared to the mostly held view that it hurts America.
From the time America was founded to how it has evolved today has a lot to do with the American Spirit. The American spirit is diversity, which means the inclusion of different types of people with the same aspirations, and optimism to succeed. Immigrants from all over the world are the root cause of what created an American. Because the American dreamed to prosper it granted them to strive for more and triumph which molded them into unique people creating the epic American Culture. Also, one of the most memorable times in our history was the Gold Rush which contributed diversity as a signature of the United States. Equally important the Gold Rush is consciousness today because it demonstrated awareness of many immigrants with different backgrounds
When it comes to Culture America has no definite culture other than what the europeans initially made it. America itself has a vast array of diverse cultures co residing as one unit. In story “Coming of Age in the Dawnland” by Charles C. Mann,we learned how the Europeans came to America and adapted a lot of
American culture and most of the things that people do, see, and think wouldn’t be the way they are if it weren't for the Romans and what they created and accomplished as an ancient empire. In ancient Rome, in their time of expansion and flourish were able to create and build so much technology and ideas that helped build their empire and create a unique image of what they are. These in turn spread with some being so groundbreaking that it they are still used commonly and frequently and others becoming the inspiration and basis of even more achievements The Roman Empire is the most influential empire to have impacted U.S. culture due to their achievements such as spread of Christianity, the creation of the Latin language, and the ideas justice.
Everyone agrees that the United States of America is considered as one of the most countries that has received huge numbers of legal and illegal immigrants. The United States has a very strong relationship with immigration. Before and after the discovery of America, tens of millions of immigrants over four centuries have made the United States what it is today. They came to build a new life and new ways to live in the new world, as it was called. In fact, millions of men and women around the world have decided to immigrate to the United States and make their new lives. This movement actually marked one of the essential elements that led to the overall development of this country. This process was essential in establishing the
Immigration is a huge topic in the United States and made the country that it now is today. “Immigration has profoundly shaped American politics and culture. Immigrants not only provided labor for the growing economy but also gave the United States a distinctly unique social and political culture. These effects continue today.”
America is the most diverse country in the world. Even Though, opportunity and freedom, which that makes America a great country.’’ American culture is influenced by people of background of Latin, native, Africans, europeans and Asians Americans and a lot more. Each culture has their own flavors, too, as American culture has influenced the world’’.(Kim Ann Zimmermann)
America is one of the most diverse nation in the world. This country is just a place filled with people collaborating from all around the world. Because of this we have many diverse different things and reimaginings. Such as food and good example is buffets. I have been to buffets with many different foods that originated in other countries. Claude Mckay felt America was a buffet that ends with food poisoning. I take it as there is a mixture among cultures but sometimes it does not work. In this very diverse country there are many stereotypes about different social groups. And the mixture of the is melting pot many people's culture is dumb down or simplified. For example, thinking a chinese restaraunt is the same as it would be in China. The good thing about America
According to a new research conducted by the Pew Research Center there are about 11.7 million immigrants residing in the United States (Preston). Illegal immigrants or often referred to as undocumented workers are people who come from other countries to the United States for either a better lifestyle or to work so they could supply to their family back in their natural country but, unfortunately there are people that do the impossible to try and get them deported. Most people target illegal immigrants and talk about how they are a bad thing for the country. But most people tend to forget that they have a purpose to be here. Most of them come since they want to escape the violence or corruption of their natural country. While others come since
