The Pros and Cons of GMO Eating is extremely important, it is also important to eat healthy. Most Americans eat without any concerns; they are not questioning or researching what they are feeding themselves or their family. A lot of that has to do with their financial stability, not having the time to prepare a meal due to their time-consuming work schedule, also lack of knowledge and education on what they are consuming. In this bibliography, I will go over all three articles and explain what they are about. Connealy, Leigh. “GMOs: The Pros & Cons of Genetically Modified Food – Newport Natural Health.” Newport Natural Health GMOs the Pros Cons of Genetically Modified Food Comments. N.p. 17 Nov. 2014. One of the important things that they talked about in the documentary was the lack of safety inspections being performed by the U.S.D.A and because of that, cases of salmonella have increased exponentially. Based on the documentary “Food Inc” “in 1972, the FDA conducted 50,000 food safety inspections, in 2006 they conducted 9,164.” Another thing that was talked about in the the video was that the animals are forced to wade around through ankle high manure for days on end until they are brought to slaughter. They are also forced to subsist on a corn only diet. This is due to the fact corn is subsidized by the US government and it is cheaper to feed animals while also fattening them up at the same time. Cows are not biologically designed to live off corn; their diet should consist of only grass. Research shows this change of diet is causing a mutated strain of e.coli to form in the cow’s stomach that is acid resistant. This strain of E.coli is known as 0157:H7 that was stated in the movie (Food
Genetically modified? That alone should be a cause for alarm, and have you wondering, what exactly is in this that I am eating? Yet every day millions of American’s choose to load up on food filled with GMO’s, and not even know it. First we must understand what GMO’s are. GMO’s are any organism whose genetics has been altered using genetic engineering. We should not be tampering with nature, and should try to grow organically as much as possible. There has not been enough research on GMO’s to know the potential long term effects it can have on us, so this is why GMO’s should be banned.
Genetically modified foods or GM foods are foods that have been changed to improve the size of the product and to progress the efficiency of food production. Genetic engineering can be done on both plants and animals and are processed to make the desired characteristics that are required for selling. Genetically modified food has become a controversial topic because people have different viewpoints on which type of food is better for their health. Many protests were created to ban genetically modified foods because of the harm that it caused to the people and the environment. Although people have different opinions towards this topic, there are numerous advantages and disadvantages in producing and consuming genetically modified foods.
You might have heard GMO thrown around by scientists or news stations before. It stands for genetically modified organism. This is a relatively new technology that has sparked a huge debate. Organisms are genetically modified by taking genes from one being and transferring them to another being in order to change the qualities of the resulting species. Now this seems like a very good thing, and in some ways it is, but it has some very serious consequences. When humans start to tamper with nature, trouble is never far away. The same is true for genetically modified foods and organisms.
The audience that my paper would pertain to would be Scientists. In today’s society many scientists have been researching the positives and negatives of GMO products. These scientists are involved in this topic due to the intense debate and amount of new information that had yet to been discovered. The reasons many scientists are interested in this topic would due to many saying there are health risks that come with eating GMO products. The views that these professionals hold that will help me would be their position or authority on the subject. Also their view on the subject can also help when needing a valid opinion on the subject.
The concept of GMOs may be quite the controversy with a lot of people, but the science of GMOs is often misinterpreted. The DNA of GMO crops have been altered to increase pest damage resistance and overall “upgrade” the way the GMO crops grow and turn out to be. This is proven by various studies including:
According to the article GMOs Under Scrutiny by Racheal Ehrenberg, genetically modified organisms or GMOs have neither benefitted nor negatively affected our way of living. The assumption that GMOs are causing a variable of health problems holds no credible scientific evidence. There is proof, however, in developing countries like India genetically modified crops like cotton containing bacillus thuringiensis, or Bt have resulted in higher yields and profits for the poor farmers. Thanks to its resistance to bollworm farmers using Bt cotton can save money on herbicides, saving more money for food and education. Many of the GMOs have been developed to only assists farmers; now the development to provide nutrition around the word with GMOs is in development.

Gmo’s have not yet been studied thoroughly to be considered to be put out on the market because the whole idea is relatively new, its not FDA approved, and its not known whether Gmo’s will have long term effects or not.
Not many people have heard about GMOs, heaven knows Elena didn’t. The truth is even though you haven’t heard of them, you have probably eaten GMO foods at some point in your life. From being called frankenfood, to maybe ending hunger in certain countries, GMOs have many benefits and many drawbacks. Whether or not you are pro GMO or say no to GMOs, you have to know what they are first.
GMOs have their pros and cons, but in terms of their effects on biodiversity, the technology is almost solely negative in how it affects the environment. Genetically modified food can damage agriculture as it allows for less restraint on chemical usage which leads to stronger weeds and weaker soil. The crops can easily spread their genetically modified genome through the wind. GMOs damage living organisms by making nasty insects stronger and vital insects weaker. GM foods are correlated with the decline in mammal and bird health and the introduction of GM animals like salmon poses a threat to the ecosystem of wild fish. GMOs can also bear consequences in terms of genetic pollution and alteration through contamination and mutation to adaptation to evolution to species extinction. Indeed, some claims are not well supported and may require testing, like genetic alteration through consumption or the validity of correlating animal health deficits with GM feeds. However, overall, GM foods clearly affect the world negatively in terms of biodiversity and ecosystem impacts.
GMO’s have been proven to be good for many reasons. Many people have found them to be helpful and beneficial. In the past GMO’s have been found to be capable of making new diseases. Even though they can make new diseases, GMO’s are also being used to naked new vaccines. GMO's can be beneficial for many reasons.
Genetically Modified Foods are not suitable regarding safety. Some argue that this is false. They say that GMO’s are beneficial and don’t have any problems concerning safety. They say that there are other things that aren’t any riskier than GMO’s that we eat and we are fine after eating these things (crop plants modified by conventional plant improvement techniques). Also, they say that it is safe and beneficial because it increases food supply and there is not an abundance of definitive information evident to prove that it is harmful. Another thing that people say is that it increases pest and disease resistance. Even though these people certainly have a point, they’ve missed the big picture. They don’t understand how great the impact
Everyday we are consuming Genetically Modified foods whether we know it or not. You are probably eating something this very minute that has been modified in some way. Our country has been doing this to our food for sometime, helping farmers along with the American people benefit from this change. Although many shut down this movement the pros seem to outweigh the cons making GM foods something that will help us along with the rest of the world.
A GMO, or genetically modified organism, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been changed by using recombinant DNA methods (also called gene splicing). a GMO can be a plant or animal and can be injected with specially genetic markers that can make them resistant to diseases allowing for plants to grow bigger and faster, which in turn could end the food shortages across, but are they safe? Do we trust these plants? Do we trust the people and companies to work for the benefit of the world and not profit? Or is this the beginning of the end where only the extremely wealthy can afford the fresh foods that these seeds will produce.
The issue of genetically modified food affects every one regardless of age, race or geographical location. You are what you eat. What a person puts into his or her body essentially impacts their health as a whole. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are found in almost every food except for whole, organic foods labeled as GMO free. Genetically altered foods have benefits and disadvantages. The choice of being an opponent or a proponent to genetically enhanced foods is ultimately up to the consumer. Seed producing companies such as Monsanto have a monopoly over how our food is produced and what is acceptable and safe for human and animal consumption. The lack of labeling of foods that contain GMOs sparks controversy with people who believe they have a right to know exactly what they’re eating and if it is safe for their health. This is an issue that affects any person eating food so it is important for one to know the pros and cons of GMOs. I will highlight the supporting arguments for genetically modified food and in contrast I will describe the risks associated with GMO consumption.
