Many countries in South America are struggling right now and the United States are considering colonizing them. Colonizing South America could help the United States and South America in some ways, but can also hurt them in many others. In the 1870's, European countries colonized Africa, and although it helped Europe in some ways, it hurt both of them in many other. Americans need to take time to think about what is best for the U.S. so they can see the many problems that come with colonizing South America. The United States should learn from Europe's mistakes and not colonize South America because it is not fair to the South American's, and it can cause harm to both Americans and South Americans.

Also, both would be introduced to new diseases which would cause both South American and American lives to be in danger. The author of “Things Fall Apart” states “It is estimated that up to 3 million people died as a result of fighting, disease, and starvation during the 30 month conflict” (Things Fall Apart, 2012, P.20). The Africans did not want their land to be taken from them so they fought back, which caused a war between Europe and Africa. The people of South America would fight back also, also causing a war. This would cause many people, both Americans and South Americans to be killed/harmed. When Europe colonized Africa, both continents introduced each other to different diseases that the other was not used to, which caused many people to die of diseases (World History patterns of interaction, 2009, p.784). There are diseases that Americans are used to and diseases that South Americans are used to that would put the other at a big risk. These diseases could seriously harm someone or even kill them. South America’s climates are different from the U.S.’s climates, so the U.S. could grow many crops that they cannot grow in there (National Geographic, N.D., para.5). Americans can then sell the crops that they grow in South America, which would help them gain a lot more money that would really help the economy. Although this would cause the U.S. to make more money, there are things in South America that would make the U.S. lose money. The author of “World history: Patterns of interactions” states that “These cities, however, often suffer from inefficient transportation and utility systems, pollution, and unregulated residential growth” (National Geographic, N.D., Para. 20). These are just some of the problems that South America has, South America has many problems that would need fixing. The U.S. would have to spend a lot of money to get all of these problems fixed, and that would really hurt the U.S.’s
