Many people argue if cell phones are too much of a distraction in our lives. Some people believe it is a key device in staying communicated with our friends and family members. In the video on YouTube, “Look Up,” it shows an example of how a man lost his chance to look up from his phone and talk to a girl. The girl later on became his wife and they had two kids. There are many examples of how cell phones are advantageous and disadvantageous in our lives. One con about phones is that there have been many wrecks because of texting and driving. Phones used to majorly be used as a device to call and only call. Over the years, phones have evolved and become a daily part of our lives. Many surveys have been taken to prove this Kent state university surveyed about 500 undergraduate majors across a range of majors. Not only did they survey their cell phone use but also measured their happiness. According to their findings students with more cellphone use had lower grades, higher anxiety, and were less happy. Another pro of having a cell phone is that there are many widgets in the phone that help us in our daily lives. Such as the weather application, it helps us keep track of how the day is going to be like in case there is a storm or if it is going to be nice outside. Another cool widget is the camera, which is included in every cell phone. The camera in each phone lets us have ever lasting memories that can be stored and saved. The camera can also help us remember dates or times if it is on a paper instead of writing it down. Recently phones have become a substitute for gps in cars. Due to the remarkable updates in map application in phones the gps in cars have become a nuisance while the cell phone is less bulky and has an easier interface.
