I think that the phrase "going green" makes everyone visibly cringe once said. People generally hate hearing the truth about our environment and tend to ignore it, but it 's something worth listening and learning about for many reasons. Each minute at least 51 acres of tropical forests are destroyed, we use almost 35,000 barrels of oil, and we add 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Each hour 1,800 children die of hunger and malnutrition, 1,692 acres of productive dry land becomes a desert, and 55 people are poisoned by the pesticides they use. Each day 25,000 people die of water shortage or contamination, ten tons of nuclear waste are being generated, 60 tons of plastic packaging and 372 tons of fishing net is dumped into the …show more content…

We need to keep all of the plants safe so that we can keep creating new medicines to help cure diseases and other things. Did you know that there is a plant found in the rain forest that has been proven to help cure cancer? Imagine what else is out there that could be used to aid in the fight against diseases, and the many other plants that have already been destroyed. What if one of them was a life-saving one? Biodiversity plays a big factor for our ecosystems. It can be negatively influenced by habitat loss and degradation due to human activity, climate change, and pollution. A lot of our basic necessities that we need to survive are provided because of biodiversity. We need food from various species, plants to eat, water to drink, air to breathe, and materials to provide shelter and other necessities. The greater species diversity we have, the more it ensures a natural sustainability for all life forms. Healthy ecosystems can also better withstand and recover from a wide range of disasters. Clean environments and towns also means more tourism and therefore more money to go around. Not only would it benefit the ecosystem, but also the economy. Without all of the resources we have, we wouldn 't be able to make as many goods, and that would hurt the economy a …show more content…

How do you, one person out of the billions on the planet, affect the environment? Land can become polluted by household garbage and by industrial waste. Americans produced about 250 million tons of garbage, including product packaging, grass clippings, furniture, clothing, bottles, food scraps, newspapers, appliances, paint, and batteries in 2010. That equals out to about 4.3 pounds of waste per person per day, according to the EPA. Many people believe that going green means that they have to change their whole lifestyle into something totally weird and not comfortable for them. That 's not true at all, it just depends on how much you care about the environment and how much you are willing to do. There are many simple ways to use less resources without doing any real harm to your lifestyle. You can start by changing your lights to the more efficient LED bulbs. By replacing a regular light bulb to a fluorescent one, the pollution reduction would be equivalent to removing one million cars. And if you don 't like the color of the lights, you could maybe just replace closet lights and the laundry room lights where it wouldn 't frustrate you so much. Recycling glass and aluminum is another important and relatively easy thing to do. Recycled glass reduces air pollution by about twenty percent and water pollution by about fifty percent. Every ton of glass recycled saves the equivalent of nine gallons of fuel needed to make
