The girls belly growls with anticipation as she continues to starve on a daily basis; every day she wonders if she will ever get another meal. Her belly has sunk in deep, showing the outlines of her fragile ribs. She is just one example, which is becoming more common to our society. Worldwide hunger is a result of a lack of farmers, adverse weather conditions, soil erosion, and widespread waste of food in developed countries which has resulted in the agricultural industry pursuing advances in technology to help overcome worldwide hunger. Those who know hold background knowledge of worldwide hunger will be able to understand its significance.

People don’t realize that when they go grocery shopping they don’t just buy enough for the week, they buy extra. Instead of buying extra they should buy just enough to last the week because the extra food you get that goes to waste could go to someone that really needs it (The Good, the bad, and the ugly 2016). People waste so much food because they “can afford to” and they don’t realize that they can afford to waste the food, but out of all the food wasted only 3% of it actually goes to a compost pile while the other 97% of it goes to a landfill and becomes harmful (Lindsey Blomberg 2011). The poverty levels today is still really high and people don’t realize that the food could go to the 46.7 million people that face this problem on a daily basis ( Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistic 2016). A lot of people today look at the expiration date on the food and if it had not been eaten then they throw it away. They do not have to because the expiration date is not necessarily when it goes bad, but is actually the day it should have been sold from the store’s inventory (Lindsey Blomberg 2011). Another example is when kids receive a carton of milk with a pre-made lunch, they will discard it instead of consume it. Dairy products have to stay cold. Kids should not waste milk that comes with a meal because it will just go bad (Lindsey Blomberg 2011). One reason for food wastage is because of pests

With the many problems faced today in worldwide hunger, technology has become the number one reliable resource because by 2050 the population is estimated to reach at least 9.7 billion people (New plant growth technology may alleviate climate change, food shortage 2016). Even though we will still face world hunger, technology has and will help only help reduce the hunger rates that we face today (Food shortages 2014). Not only does technology help with crop production, it helps with multiple things like: harvest rate, how much the plant and soil has been watered, and even if the crops have symptoms of a disease perhaps (The Role Of Farming 2014). Data farming main purpose is to get the overall and unexpected results to be captured and examined. Data farming is a new form of technology used for experimenting with different crops and it helps with research as far trying to develop crops that can withstand heat and different problems that crops face. With data farming, having so much technology and research incorporated into it, it has helped a lot with being able to have a bigger crop production and ultimately helping overcome worldwide hunger (Summary of Data Farming 2016). With all the new technology continuing to grow GMO’s have made a huge impact on producing more crops with the same amount of land.
