The Problem About "Excessive Work" and Its Setting

In a period of rapid development of new technologies and fierce competition in almost all business, people give work and their career more and more time. Scientists have found that about 46 % of today's employees want to devote their lives to work and career achievements. One of the outcomes of such phenomenon is workaholism -- a form of behavior expressed in excessive work based on internal or external motivation. In today’s economy, most employees spend more than 50 hours at work and encourage this by establishing a direct relationship between the number of hours spent at work and the efficiency of their activities for the benefit of the company. However, this relationship is not always true. Negative consequences such as exhaustion, social conflict, various psychological and health issues may occur due to the addictive nature of such behavior. Weather workaholism is promoted by the organization or presented as an inner desire to work it affects one significantly.

Workaholics can be defined by three categories:

1. Obsessive compulsive workaholic experience overpowering need for work. Leisure time perceived as unpleasant for this category. Work becomes an addiction and significantly affects personal lives of such workaholics and people surrounding one.

2. Perfectionist Workaholic feels the urge to fulfill high standards set by society or created internally. This type of workaholics pay meticulous attention to detail, present lower scores on interpersonal relationship level, tend to have problems with delegating work and appear to be less satisfied with their jobs.

3. Achievement-oriented workaholic experience enjoyment of work and positively related to physical and mental health. This type is related to low voluntary t...

...s in an organization. Also, workaholism was viewed mostly from a psychological prospective and was not related to work and organization outcomes. The current study will consider information from previous investigations. The research team is intended to bring wider understanding of the topic and provide solutions for Fortune restaurant-bar issues.

Brady, Vodanovich and Rotunda (2008) evaluated how various outcomes such as work-family conflict, job satisfaction, and enjoyment of leisure time can be affected by workaholism. The result of the examination disclosed that workaholism a significant predictor of work-family conflict, job satisfaction and boredom with free-time. The beneficial part of the study was the ability to access various facets of workaholism. They believed that this type of workers brings negative rather than positive outcomes to the organization.
