The Power of Islam

The Islamic religion was crucial in the development of later Muslim based societies because of the 5 pillars of Islam, the main beliefs. The five pillars of Islam are Shahada: Faith, Salat: Prayer, Sawm: Fasting, Zakat: almsgiving, and Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca which outline the duties necessary to be worthy in the eyes of Allah. In Shahada, Muslims believe in a total declaration of their faith to the only god Allah. To worship Allah, Muslims pray 5 times a day at dawn, noon, afternoon, evening, and night facing the Kaaba of Mecca which is a crucial aspect of their prayer. Muslims also fast to worship Allah during the month of Ramadan which is an obligatory action once hitting adulthood, puberty. Followers of the Islamic religion are obliged to the 4th pillar of zakat or alms giving if they are able to do so.
