“We are not cave dwellers anymore, we live in the age of technology…”, states Friedrich Durremalt, a Swiss novelist. Because of the advances of technology, the struggles of everyday life are made simple. Freeman Dyson writes, “Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is perhaps the greatest of God’s gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts and sciences.” Researchers have shown that the advancement of technology has positively affected society through health, social, and educational factors. Across the world, the concern for health care and treatments are becoming top priority. Procedures and equipment in which medical care is delivered, also known as medical technology, is steady on the rise. Doctors are inventing new ways of performing surgical and medical procedures such as joint replacements, C.T. scanners and implantable defibrillators. (1). New support systems were put into place in order to provide accurate, effective, and reliable diagnosis of treatments. Telemedicine, an example of a support system, is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another through electronic communications. (2). Medical conditions that were untreatable back then, are now being treated, as a result of advanced medical technology. According to a 2010 article entitled, “Cancer Advances in Focus”, the mortality rate for women who had breast cancer in 1975 was 31 deaths for every 100,000 women. At the time, there was no identified gene associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. The only available surgical option was to get a mastectomy, which is to remove the breast.
