Throughout the many years of American history, the government has evolved in numerous ways. Although many Americans during the 1800s were against government involvement due to the fact that Americans did not want one specific group or individual to have so much power over them and their ways of life, especially those in the South that were definitely more traditional, I contend that the political identity from Abraham Lincoln to Teddy Roosevelt has increasingly developed in many positive ways by decreasing discrimination, bringing the states together through westward movement, and regulating big businesses. Lincoln was a solid supporter of the 13th amendment, sadly, he was assassinated before its final enactment.
