I want to join the SMSP program because it will give me the opportunity to be a responsible leader and competent scholar in the area that interests me. My desire to join the SMSP program stems from my fascination with the structure of the program, it potential in developing leadership skills, public speaking skills, critical thinking skills, and persuasive writing skills, as delivered through the program, are integral components of making responsible leader and competent scholar. Furthermore, the program would enable me to connect with achieved personalities who would challenge me intellectually. I am interested in President Sexton’s course because it examines the relationship between religion and government in the context of the US Constitution. I have studied some structural and legal similarities in the relationship between the Islamic Constitutions and the UAE Constitution, and it will be intriguing to find out how the UAE can benefit from this comparative study. One aspect of American legality that appeals to me is that it encompasses a unique situation of religiosity role in public affairs. When I listen to different points of view I am fascinated coming as I do from an Emirati educational background, which has stimulated my ear and mind to compare these associations naturally in the light of the increasing presence of the Americans in the UAE. This naturally broadens one’s horizons, and increases awareness of other cultures and civilizations that are getting closer to the UAE intellectually and culturally, yet we know so little about them. As a college student, I have always wanted to be a scholar who can contribute to Emirates society in linguistics and cultural studies. This program will provide me with the necessa... ... middle of paper ... ...would focus on cultural factors, that influence these legal systems, and would significantly contribute to clarification of possible misinterpretations. My long-term plan is to continue working on comparative aspects of the region’s literary expressions. I have collaborated with a Swedish professor to translate his PhD dissertation on nationalism to Arabic and the work was published recently by the institution of Arab Diffusion. I learned that your institution has a reputation for academic distinction through Dr. Annick Durand who graduated from it. I believe that you SMSP program will help me deepen my understanding of the critical skills that are essential for greater contributions to my areas of study. I feel my experience so far will stand me in good stead for my time at the university and hope you will consider me favorably for a place in your SMSP program.
Moreover, the case-oriented structure offered at MMPA is a great fit for me. During the past three and a half years at Michigan State University, I was actively engaged in a variety of case competitions, which enhanced my communication skills and bettered my presentation techniques, skillsets that are indispensable at MMPA. Additionally, with my strong interest in mathematics, I enrolled in several mathematics-related courses during my undergraduate, which helped me solidify my analytical skills that will be heavily utilized at MMPA as
At IMSA, I believe the possibilities to enhance my education and future are infinite. The challenging curriculum and bright teachers and students both work together to make a positive learning environment. I am excited to be able to contribute to IMSA by sharing my insight, and being a part of the many clubs and the student
My future plans include getting accepted into the A. James Clark School of Engineering honors program at the University of Maryland, College Park. In order to make this a reality, I studied daily in preparation for the SATs, taking the initiative by applying for different scholarships, taking challenging classes and involving myself in extracurriculars to shape myself into a well-rounded candidate. Being accepted into the SEAP program would be another valuable step forward in making that goal a reality. As an impressionable young man, I would desire nothing more than to work alongside the mentors of this program, learning all I can from
The United States of America: once a small colony, now one of the world’s most powerful nations; a nation that has been fraught with wars, protests and continuous conflicts between religion and state. This essay will investigate the relationship between the religion and state, discuss the states declaration’s about this relationship and the practice of these declarations. Americans, after the September 11 attacks, have marginalised the Muslim community, which is largely due to their Christian origins and misinterpretations of Islam.
I would like to become a member of the Presidential Leadership Academy (PLA) because I am determined to be a successful student at Elmhurst College. The program is focused on helping students, like me, who need academic support and guidance. In order to reach my best, I will need the friends, mentors, teachers, and advocates who I would be fortunate to meet in the Academy. The PLA will prepare me to be self-reflective as I continue to become a more thoughtful person. I consider myself a leader and an independent thinker, I am aware that I have much to learn about how to be a responsible, productive, and successful leader. The PLA would show me how to take the initiative when I have a good idea and yearn to put it into action. When I enter the workplace or join a club or organization, I want to have the leadership skills that help me, my peers, and society. I believe that becoming a member of the PLA at Elmhurst College will change the path of my life. I think that it would help me in ways I cannot even imag...
The Islamic revival trend of the late 20th century forged the intellection that the ‘resurrected’ Muslim nations were akin to Islamic states. The region considered to make up the Muslim world indisputably comprises nations that maintain majority Muslim populations. The extent to which these nations may be labeled Islamic, however, is dubious. As the omnipresent uniformity ascribed to Muslim nations has intensified with heightened media attention, the variance among systems of governance in these countries has continued to be overlooked. The Islamic presence in these countries, in fact, ranges vastly, from Islamic social groups that strive to revive social morality and eradicate Western culture to established political systems that endeavor to enforce Islamic law.

His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the United Arab Emirates, or UAE, stated, “The greatest use that can be made of wealth is to invest it in creating generations of educated and trained people.” From its conception, the United Arab Emirates was founded on the importance of education. Since it’s founding in 1971, the small country’s population has risen to over nine million people. This dramatic rise in population was a cause for the dramatic investment the countries government has put into its education system. In 1975, the rate of adult literacy was 54% among men and 31% among women, while today, literacy rates f...

It goes without saying that people are not entitled to take the law in their own hands, for it’s the responsibility of the Muslim State and its concerned bodies to maintain peace, security, etc., and to prevent chaos and disorder from creeping into the Muslim society.”
In this book , Esposito provides a succinct, up-to-date survey of the Islamic experience, an introduction to the faith, belief, and practice of Islam from its origins to its contemporary resurgence. He traces the emergence and development of this dynamic faith and its impact on world history and politics. He discusses the formation of Islamic belief and practice (law, theology, philosophy, and mysticism), chronicling the struggle of Muslims to define and adhere to their Islamic way of life. Equally important is the essential information Esposito provides on the contemporary world of Islam, from Muslim responses to the challenges of colonialism and modernization to the reassertion of Islam in politics and society.

I am excited about continuing my academic career at Baruch. But, I am especially excited about working with educators like Peter Hall, Stan Altman, James Krauskopt, and Michael Seltzer. Their knowledge and experience in non-profit will prepare me for furthering my career. In addition, I am truly inspired by the mission statement of Baruch College. There is a sentence that reads, “The College’s graduate programs focus on professional preparation that enables students to become leaders and innovators in their fields.” This sentence defines the reason for the pursuit of my MPA and my career goal in the non-profit sector. For that reason, I know that Baruch College is where I will be able accomplish this goal.
