What is marriage? Based on what a person believes, marriage can mean many different things. For example, someone with a Christian background might say that it is a holy matrimony of man and woman. For someone with a background of atheism, it might mean committing to their significant other, which ever gender they are, for the rest of their life. However, this can change from person to person depending on what they believe marriage is. Marriage is a very crucial topic today, people are fighting over beliefs and this happens to be one. In the media it is an argument about which group is right. There are rallies and parades for homosexuals trying to get equal rights. With everything thing that has happened in the last decade, people have to wonder whether they should get married or not. “A recent Pew Research Center survey showed that 39 percent of respondents believe marriage is becoming obsolete. And as far as the issue of living together vs. marriage, 55 percent of respondents felt that it was a good thing or made no difference if a couple lived together without being married.” The older generations are surprised at how different the newest generation is. They are the ones fighting against the new generation. They do not want change and are not prepared for it. It is different than what they grew up with and it’s breaking what they have always known. Not being married was not always accepted as what it is today. People of the older generation were forced into marriage, even if they didn’t love that person.
