In the story "The Persian Carpet" by Hanan Shaykh, Shaykh uses contrast to display her differentiating personalities toward her mother’s betrayal and uses paralleling events to illustrate her frustrations towards her mother. Hanan, her younger sister, and her aunt Maryam quietly visit their separated mother; whom Hanan dearly misses "I had missed her and wished that she would come back…". Although, Maryam told Hanan to stick to the plan; to show no emotion in seeing her mother, yet, Hanan couldn't succeed because she felt the need to show compassion and affection to her mother. As Hanan enters her mother’s new residence, Hanan froze and was in a state of shock that her mother kept possession of the carpet ‘As I stared down at the floor I froze. In. confusion 1 looked at the Persian carpet spread on the floor, then gave my mother a long look.’ In conclusion, Hanan’s heart was torn apart due to her mother’s disloyalty of stealing the Persian carpet of her childhood. Ironically, Hanan’s childhood was lifted by that carpet, but by all means, Hanan’s childhood is now shattered because of her mother’s thievery. In the midst of the night, the time the carpet was lost; before her mother’s divorce, Hanan’s mother in an outcry stated that it was Ira; the half blinded man’s flaw that the carpet was stolen. And Ira could be heard in sobbing claim; he was surprised to be hearing inductive reasoning from Hanan’s mother as there is no evidence to back up Hanan’s mother’s claim. It gave Hanan a feeling of uneasiness that her mother was not in fact not saying the truth due to using the blind man are the fall guy. During the incident, the blind man said to Hanan “"Never mind, child." Then he- turned round to leave. I thought I saw tears on his cheeks.” This signals that Ira was about to tell the truth that Hanan’s mother stole the carpet, but he felt the need to keep quiet due to the general public not believing in him. In all honesty, I truly believe that the narrator, with no name, has a huge weakness; and that weakness is that since she is discouraged by her mom, which caused her to be completely blind sighted about Raheem which made her so willingly to take him back even though she realized she was being abused and cheated on. “You aint no beauty prize”-Narrators mom. And: “He hooks his thumb through my gold hooped earring and pulls down hard……….But he don’t get far-I don’t let him. One of the lies that was told to AnneMarie was the lie about the death of Aunt Birte. When Annemarie asked Uncle Henrik about her, she became furious because he lied to her. Although later, Uncle Henrik explained, “It is much easier to be brave if you don’t know everything. And so your mama doesn’t know everything. Neither do I. In the story “In Camera, Saadawi illustrated how women were treated by the legal system in Arabic country when they did something against the system. The protagonist, Leila Al-Fargani, who was a young woman on trial for calling the “mighty one”, which is a respective title for the President of their country, a stupid man. Moreover, during the time she was waiting for the court date, she was brutally beaten and raped by ten men who seem to be the guards. At the time she was in the court, she was still suffering from the pain both in physical and mental way, but she did not collapse. When the time the judge and those with him declared that ten men raped Leila and also her father’s honor got trampled. The theme that has been attached to this story is directly relevant to it as depicted by the anonymous letters which the main character is busy writing secretly based on gossip and distributing them to the different houses. Considering that people have an impression of her being a good woman who is quiet and peaceful, it becomes completely unbecoming that she instead engages in very abnormal behavior. What makes it even more terrible is the fact that she uses gossip as the premise for her to propagate her hate messages not only in a single household but across the many different households in the estate where she stays.

Nevertheless, the narrator’s mind will always remain free, emulating the freedom relished by the woman in the wallpaper. Unfortunately, this escape of reality means that the speaker will never reclaim any sort of rationality. With the deed of freeing the woman in the wallpaper, the narrator unintentionally guarantees the long lasting burden of insanity.
I am here today to talk to you about the Persian Empire. One of the reasons I chose this topic is that I am Persian myself. Another reason for me choosing this topic is that there is a large Persian community in Lower Mainland.
Even when Amir was nasty and cruel to him, he had always been a faithful, kind soul. He never doubted that Amir was his friend and that he held a special place in his heart. When Hassan got raped, Amir did not help Hassan. There were ultimately two options: step up to the bullies and rescue Hassan, or run away. Even after hearing Assef say how Amir would never do the same for him, about how he would never stand up for him, he still chose to run away and pretend like he did not just witnessed what had happend. There is also scene where Amir is feeling guilty and both the boys are around a pomegranate tree. Amir just starts pelting Hassan with pomegranates and threatens to him to throw one back. He exclaims, “You’re a coward,” (...). And what does Hassan do? He picks up a pomegranate, but instead of hurling it in Amir’s direction, he smashes it on himself and says, “are you satisfied?” (....). There is this constant pressure on Hassan and Amir’s relationship. The Afghan society would not approve of such “friendship.” Both of the boys were good, but Amir was so young when he made the mistakes that it made the reader question whether there was a way for Amir to be morally good again.
Iran was included in the territory of what was then the ancient Persian Empire. For centuries Iran (land of the Aryans) was also referred to as Persia, which was the official name until 1935. Fourteen years had passed before the Iranian government allowed the use of both names. Few groups of people today have significant history like the Iranians, descending from the ancient Persians, who possess one of the world’s richest and oldest cultures. Historically, a variety of other cultures and groups had once occupied the ancient Iranian plateau as early as 4,000 B.C.E, with little importance. Beginning by the third millennium, Persia was ruled by some of the greatest kings of all time, from Cyrus the Great to Darius the III, who turned the Persian Empire into one of the world’s greatest civilizations.
The Chihuly Persian ceiling was my first awww moment. It can be missed if your focus is straight forward. The Persian ceiling caught my attention because, I did not have to go directly to the receptionist desk. Therefore, it left just enough on the horizon to catch my eyes. The colors stood out the most backed up by different shapes. It would be easy to get a stiff neck, staring at the ceiling. I would gaze at the ceiling for so long then look away to wonder what it reminded me of. It had a resemblance to a National Geographics episode of deep sea cold water corals. In the short story “ Artificial Roses” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Marquez explores guilt, and its relationship with the church, as well as in the family structure. In the story there are two main characters. Mina, a young woman, who makes a living by creating roses, out of paper and wires, and her blind grandmother. The first thing you learn about the pair is that they share a room. There is an obvious sense from Mina that she feels her personal space is invaded by her blind grandmother. As noted in the film old women are the ones who tell the stories, and have “magical powers.” But Mina is unaware of her grandmothers power of perception, and in the story Mina learns that her grandmother is quite aware of Mina’s actions. The story is essentially a battle of wits, and undeniable guilt, between the two.
The husband is able to provide for his family with a position in an office, logically his intellect is not in question; his emotional stability has defiantly been affected. Therefore, this brings the author to rely on the husband’s perspective to divulge the fundamental components of the story using a third-person narration. For a year the husband thought that his wife had been kidnapped, yet he never checked her person effects to see if anything was missing. Only because the mother needed additional spices did the husband check for the jewelry that he advised that the wife stash in the top cabinet in case there was an intruder (1995, p. 587). Once the missing jeweler was discovered the husband knew that the wife then abandoned not only him, but also their the young son.
Although she got pregnant by someone other than her husband they did not look at the good and joyful moments the child could bring. Having a baby can be stressful, especially being that the village was not doing so great. The baby could have brought guilt, anger, depression, and loneliness to the aunt, family, and village lifestyle because having a baby from someone other than your husband was a disgrace to the village, based on the orientalism of women. Society expected the women to do certain things in the village and to behave a particular way. The author suggests that if her aunt got raped and the rapist was not different from her husband by exploiting "The other man was not, after all, much different from her husband. They both gave orders; she followed. ‘If you tell your family, I 'll beat you. I 'll kill you. Be, here again, next week." In her first version of the story, she says her aunt was a rape victim because "women in the old China did not choose with who they had sex with." She vilifies not only the rapist but all the village men because, she asserts, they victimized women as a rule. The Chinese culture erred the aunt because of her keeping silent, but her fear had to constant and inescapable. Without realizing it, she has created a struggle between a friend in whom she can confide but cannot love like a husband and a husband whom she can love as such, but in whom she cannot confide. The saddest part of the story, and the part which finally shows the consequences of the wife 's ineptitude, is the final scene. Upon awakening from a stoned slumber, she finds her blindman, her confidant, sharing a close conversation with her husband, her greatest desire, as they draw a picture of a Cathedral together. Her makes her jealousy evident when she exclaims, “What are you doing? Tell me, I want to know...What 's going on?” like a child shouting to be heard (Carver 193).
