From infancy to old age, the expectations and perceptions of human’s experiences undergo a constant metamorphosis. One significant life event is the decision to marry. The question then arises; does a person’s age impact their view of married life? In order to investigate this idea, it would be useful to interview people of varying ages for comparison. Recent interviews with a 21-year college student woman contemplating marriage and a retired married woman facing 40 anniversary revealed that while both couples share a desire for companionship with their spouse, their opinions of a successful marriage greatly differ. First, whereas the older woman recognizes the benefits of marriage more concretely than the young woman does. When they were asked about positive and negative effects on their life, young woman was thinking about it vaguely answering while she would spend rest of her life with somebody she love, she would have to live with somebody else like roommate. So, as a negative effect, she might have to adjust her things that he doesn’t like and have to learn to compromise with her partner. On the other hand, the older woman definitely perceived what factor s of marriage has positive effects on her life. She said marriage has helped her life development because she had to work in a marriage with disagreements sometimes. To be close to her husband, she went through her feelings and his feelings, which made her be better person to understand another person and made an adaptation. Moreover, through marriage, she came to have a partner to share and family to do, experience and support together. Indeed, the older woman has more concrete positive perception about marriage since she experienced the marriage life
