The film takes place in 1776, during the War of Independence of the United States of America or the American Revolutionary War 1775-1783., between the UK and loyalists on the one hand, and 13 British colonies revolutionaries (Patriots), declared its independence from Britain and the creation of independent union state in 1776, on the other hand. Honored veteran and father of seven children of Benjamin Martin, decided to stay away from the war and not to fight with Britain. In the town meeting Martin makes argues that the war will not be just between the armies on some distant field, that the war will be in our homes among the people in their homes and that innocent people will die in front of the children. But the war for independence still began, as the eldest son of Benjamin Martin, Gabriel joined in the ranks of the independent army. …show more content…

In the morning, when British solders arrive and attempt to arrest Gabriel and capture the African American free men and women who work Benjamin's land, the second son Thomas was killed by ruthless Colonel William Tavington. Despite Benjamin’s strong stand against going into war, he takes arms and with assistance of his sons, in a very bloody battle frees Gabriel from the British unit escorting a arrested Gabriel. And the war for independence becomes a war of revenge. Benjamin and his son Gabriel joined colonial militia forces and became an extraordinary feared force earning the name of “Ghost”. Recognizing English Lord Cornwallis's advanced knowledge of battle tactics and learning his weaknesses, Benjamin reverts to guerrilla warfare tactics.
