Website would of course not exist without the invention of the internet, which came out in the 1960s. It was first only allowed to be used by the government so they could efficiently transfer data from one computer to another. It is said that the first website was made sometime in August of 1981. (Arandilla, 2011) The first free web browser program for public use was released in the 1990s and was called Mosaic. HTML is split up into five generations, HTML being the first version and HTML5 being the latest version out. HTML coding was first introduced in the early 1990s, but it didn’t give web developers a lot of room to be creative since they were limited by how slow the internet was when it first came out, also because it was brand new and so only basic coding was in HTML. When web developers began to start making their own coding to help them become more free and creative, so in order to have a universal HTML coding the next version came out being HTML 2. Now the internet is faster and more coding mean more control and creativity web designers can be. In 1995 HTML 3 was released and many new additions came out as well. Microsoft released Internet Explorer and designers can now input animated images called “.gif” in thei...

The transition from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 ushered in major paradigms shifts in the software industry. Software evolved from being a licensed product to being a subscribed web service. Development efforts slid from the tight control of specialists, for example systems analysts and programmers, towards a collaborative project between end users and technology experts. Learners are now required to teach themselves and teachers are there to facilitate the learning process. The dissemination of knowledge and wisdom would gravitate away from the puritanical filters of rigorous scholastic scrutiny towards a mashed-up crowd sourced assembly such as Wikipedia. Personal websites would now encompass a social networki...

Over the past few years a debate between Flash and HTML5 has been gaining more attention as HTML5 becomes more developed and polished. Flash has been the web standard for websites since the late 1990’s but HTML5 is quickly gaining ground and is considered by some as the standard of the “future”. Another aspect of the debate is whether or not we should go with open web standards or closed, Flash being the latter. Even though 85% of the most-visited websites run on flash, HTML5 is the future because HTML5 combined with javascript and CSS3 offers the same capabilities as flash and HTML5 can avoid many issues that Flash faces by being open source.
