Adaptation is when an individual adjusts to new situations . Many individuals who move to a new city, or workplace, or school have to adapt their new environments. These individuals have to meet new people, make new friends and even change their lifestyle. Some may find adapting to a new area difficult while others have no trouble with it. Some may even find the new environment more comforting compared to their old lifestyle, and habits. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding writes about two foiling characters, one who adapts well to the new environment, while the other struggles. The author suggests that often times, some people will sacrifice their morals and values to be able to adapt and to fit into their environment, while others are willing to hold their ground to stick to their morals and values, resulting the inability to adapt to their new environment. Initially, civilization still holds onto Jack, preventing him from sacrificing his morals and values to adapt into the new environment.
