The Odd Couple In the original television series of The Odd Couple plot is centered around a Felix Unger character who is described to be a neat freak, who does work as a photographer. Felix is thrown out of his house by his wife, which leads him to move in with his friend Oscar Madison. Oscar’s character is the complete opposite of Felix. Oscar is a sportswriter who doesn’t clean, is careless, and has a gambling problem. As they begin to share living spaces, Felix realizes he isn’t happy and begins to point out his flaws. With him feeling depressed and down, and pointing out his flaws, Oscar is miffed by it and starts to contemplate throwing Felix out. Oscar later finds out that Felix is having a positive effect on him. In the play production at our school, the play is focused on the characters of Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive Madison is a sportswriter, and is disheveled, careless, and has a problem with giving her ex-husband money every time he calls and ask. Florence Unger is a stay at home mom, who is obsessed with cleanliness, and enjoys to cook extravagant meals. Florence goes missing after her The women in the play dealt with real life issues, and dealt with it like normal friends would. I think the director, Tammy O’Donnell, wanted her audience to share those female friendship qualities in her play. I don’t think O’Donnell was trying to display what we usually see in the media. The television shows that we see on television today about female relationships are filled with drama, and groups of women not getting along. In the play the female friendship is strong, and there for one another. O’Donnell produced female characters, who were strong and vulnerable, that not all women are clean, and can cook a meal. O’Donnell also displayed hilarious male roles who discussed their past relationships
