After World War II, Korea was divided by the 38th parallel into two separate countries. When Japan seized Korea to America and the Soviets. America backed South Korea with a democratic government, and The Soviets backed North America with a communist government. This divide cause great tension between North Korea and American. Over time, America has made dozens of attempts at peace.
North and South Koreas Outbreak In War John F. Kennedy once noted: “Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.” Rising tensions between two opposing forces can lead to intense conflict. Provided that China and Japan have struggles of their own, North and South Korea have had struggles since 1950 (“Korean War”, 1) and continue to hold their conflicts, which seem to be increasing. South Korea, a democratic nation, is the exact opposite of North Korea; a hyper-nationalist nation - seemingly creating a “personality clash” between the two. Much like World War I, there may be, sometime in the future, a full blown war because of North Korea’s hyper-nationalist secretive rule. North Korea’s isolation, internal struggles, and Kim Jong-un’s intention of proving leadership will increase tensions between North and South Korea and may result in an outbreak of war in the near future.

With the Allies achieving victory in Europe and Japan, Korea, which had been occupied by Japan since 1910, would be placed under the temporary control of Russia and the United States. Korea was divided into two separate states at the thirty-eighth parallel with Russia holding the North and America holding the South (Uschan 36). As the relationship between Russia and America turned for the worse, leading to the Cold war, both attempted to gain as many allies as possible to support them (Bachrach 11). The American government felt it was their duty to stop the Soviet Union and issued the Truman Doctrine, which was a policy to fight Communism around the world (Uschan 27). Therefore the U.S involvement in the Korean War was justified as a way to prove that the U.S would not allow the Soviet Union to spread Communism without a fight.
After World War II, the US and Soviet Union became enemies and entered a Cold War. The two countries had been allies in the fight against Nazi Germany but tension developed as the two countries emerged from the war as global powers. The allies had teamed up because of need, not desire. As the Soviet Union sought to spread communism, capitalist America adopted a policy of containment. Their growing suspicions of each other led to the Cold War, an indirect conflict that stemmed from a fear of nuclear destruction and was fought by each country supporting different international conflicts through aid and acquisition.

The NPT was a major success as an advocate of arms control and it set a precedent between states to prevent proliferation, something that needs to be taken care of still to this day.
