Robots of the world! The power of man has fallen! A new world has arisen: the Rule of the Robots! March! (Capek, 1921). This was a grim scene from the first play to coin the term robot. From the very first literature to use the term robot, these creatures of man were made out to be feared. Now we enter the age where early science fiction authors predicted we would all have our own personal robots. The actual science behind intelligent robotic-thought has been harder than imagined but not impossible. In fact I have found research that shows that these authors were not all that far off. But what effect will it have on humanity? Will Robots take over the world? I think not. .
Throughout time many things have had an effect on human life. I believe that computers and robotics have had the largest effect of all. The computer has managed to solve problems for which no algorithms were known, and robots have displaced many manufacturing and labor jobs. But machine is not man’s master. The form of computers has continued to change, but not one has been able to reproduce the grim scenes of Karel Capek’s 1921 play R. U. R. (Rossum's Universal Robots). His play was the first to use the word “robots”. A term coined by Capek’s brother Josef Capek (Lidove noviny, 24.12.1933), which just means laborer or a type of slave or peasant. The play was also the first to display robots killing all of humanity. 90 years later this has still not happened, but was Capek’s story for entertainment or a warning. Can a robot like this exist today? One smarter at reason than we?

The Nobel Prize Laureates in 2013 in the field of physiology, and medicine was given to three individuals. The Laureates were James E. Rothman, Randy W. Schekman and Thomas C. Südhof. The three investigators revealed that there is the machinery that controls how cells transport major molecules in a cargo system which ends up delivering them to the right place at the right time in the body. This is unbelievable since, there was a lot of skepticism concerning the research pursued by the scientists. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the newest fields in Science and Engineering. Work started in earnest soon after World War II, and the name itself was coined in 1956 by John McCarthy. Artificial Intelligence is an art of creating machines that perform functions that require intelligence when performed by people [Kurzweil, 1990]. It encompasses a huge variety of subfields, ranging from general (learning and perception) to the specific, such as playing chess, proving mathematical theorems, writing poetry, driving a car on the crowded street, and diagnosing diseases. Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, allows a machine to function as if the machine has the capability to think like a human. While we are not expecting any hovering cars anytime soon, artificial intelligence is projected to have a major impact on the labor force and will likely replace about half the workforce in the United States in the decades to come. The research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly at an unstoppable rate. So while many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, computer scientists actually propose that robots would benefit a country’s efficiency of production, allowing individuals to reap the benefits of the robots. For the advantage of all, researchers and analysts have begun to mend the past ideas of human-robot interaction. They have pulled inspiration from literary works of Isaac Asimov whom many saw as the first roboticist ahead of his time, and have also gotten ideas of scholarly research done by expert analysts. These efforts have began to create an idea of a work force where humans and robots work together in harmony, on a daily basis.
I have always been fascinated by Biology and Computer Science which propelled me to take up my undergraduate studies in the field of Bioinformatics. As a part of my undergraduate curriculum, I have been exposed to a variety of subjects such as “Introduction to Algorithms”, “System Biology”, “PERL for Bioinformatics”, “Python”, “Structure and Molecular Modeling” and “Genomics and Proteomics” which had invoked my interest in areas such as docking algorithms, protein structure prediction, practical aspects of setting and running simulation, gene expression prediction through computational analysis. These fields have both a strong computational flavour as well as the potential for research which is what attracts me towards them.
Pop culture has explored this idea and gave fictional tales of what can happen if artificial intelligence “goes bad”. While it may not be a credible source, it still has room for interpretation. Allowing robotics what is arguably the most influential trait today, a mind, is a frightening thought. Researching the human mind is still a field of study today and is not fully understood. How can scientists and researchers behind artificial intelligence accurately come up with how the human mind interacts with itself and its surroundings? Yes, they can start with the ability to learn, such as a path of an infant absorbing knowledge through its adolescence, but what if the expansion of information becomes exponential? The artificial intelligence may gain full control and depth of their mind and comprehend the world differently as humans do. This brings the artificial intelligence to a cognitive and spiritual level beyond that of the human mind. If this were to happen humans cannot be able to understand the artificial intelligence. They have programmed it to learn itself, its mind, and how to operate. What level is that beyond a human mind, a god? At one point researchers that developed the artificial intelligence had a grasp and outlook for their technology’s lifespan. When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.

Finally robots dominated the human race, not in the way of military forces but in lifestyle behaviors. The story was interesting, yet it was also hilarious. My biggest concern is that we cannot trust these robots. We all know how technology works these days. Oh wait, it hardly works. Isn’t that what always seems to happen? You never know with technology. Why would people think robots would be any different?...
Our minds have created many remarkable things, however the best invention we ever created is the computer. The computer has helped us in many ways by saving time, giving accurate and precise results, also in many other things. but that does not mean that we should rely on the computer to do everything we can work with the computer to help us improve and at the same time improve the computer too. A lot of people believe that robots will behave like humans someday and will be walking on the earth just like us. There should be a limit for everything so that our world would remain peaceful and stable. At the end, we control the computers and they should not control us.
To conclude, robots could be the backbone of the society that will result in a technological revolution.
