Visual arts have been around for many centuries. In fact, theses arts have dated back to the very beginning of civilization. They go back to the Paleolithic Age, when artists used cave paintings to express the feelings and emotions of people of this time era. These eye-pleasing pieces of art have been used in different ways throughout history. Art has been used to portray and bring out negative feelings towards war and other forms of political violence. The tactic of swaying people through art has become very popular in times, especially when it comes to the topic of war. Opinions of other citizens in the United States and other countries around the world have become highly dependent on the visual arts, such as propaganda. Visual arts make people feel anxiety and angst, rather than relief against wars and other political violence.
Many times when people see a piece of art, they see a nicely painted picture or a glorious photograph. This mind set is not the way artists see themselves and their work. Artists do not make their art for just mere decoration, many artists use political and social issues to inspire their paintings and pictures. “Art can vividly reflect the views and concerns of society; artwork is also often regarded as a political forum. Artists often include political or social issues as elements in their work.” (Bagtas)
Pablo Picasso had a big impact, as a painter, on the opinions of the people. Many of his paintings have been the bases of opinion and criticisms throughout the world. During the Spanish Civil War, a little town had been bombed by opposite forces. These forces wiped out a little town, one of the oldest in the Basque province, named Guernica (Fred 27).
Picasso felt what was done to Guernica was wr...

What is art and how is it used as a tool for communication? These multifaceted questions are answered by analyzing ancient and modern art. In the article “When Art Loses Its Sting: The evolution of Protest Art in Authoritarian Contexts” Jacqueline Adams explains how art captures the interest of sociologists. Art executes a unique duality in society. In both recent and ancient history, art has been used as propaganda. Now, contemporary art works to challenge or protest ideologies. Analyzing art provides an interesting insight: the art of today holds as much influence as it did in history. Art has not “lost its sting,” but rather gained a phenomenal impact.
People can have many different opinions depending on a topic, but what is truly difficult is getting a complete level of understanding from every opinion, or understanding the point of view of each opinion. Even accepting the points of view can be difficult for some people, who believe that their opinions are right. Luckily, people can learn about the other person’s frame of reference, and at the very least understand the topic or the person a little better. This particular topic is art, which is known for its multiple possible perceptions or its many different messages that it can send a person or group of people. In this way, people can learn more about the thought processes and feelings of others. Unfortunately, with differing opinions,
Over the decades, art has been used as a weapon against the callousness of various social constructs - it has been used to challenge authority, to counter ideologies, to get a message across and to make a difference. In the same way, classical poetry and literature written by minds belonging to a different time, a different place and a different community have somehow found a way to transcend the boundaries set by time and space and have been carried through the ages to somehow seep into contemporary times and shape our society in ways we cannot fathom.
Art and war have gone hand in hand for centuries, people make art to convey a message and to make a statement about current event; The Lipstick on Caterpillar Tracks and the Column of Trajan are both prime examples of art made to convey certain themes.
Pablo Picasso is the worlds most renowned artist of the 20th century. He did a variety of skills related to the world of art. Most people remember him as just a painter, but he was more than that. He could do sculpting, drawing, engraving, lithographs, and more. One of his most famous periods of all time, The Blue Period showed all that he was capable of. More than the paintings above all else he learned all his abilities self-taught from his father and the schooling his father helped provide.
Art, unlike other words cannot be characterized by one simple definition; the meaning of art is much more than a surface level interpretation. Over many centuries, art has proved to be a way people can express themselves, plays a role in shaping cultures, and allows for communication through many different ways of expression. Art can either take a lifetime to study or can be as straightforward as graffiti on the side of a popular building. The topic of art has been largely controversial dating back to Mo Tzu, and the wide dispute has only evolved over centuries. There are ways to examine the different realms art touches, and how it has evolved over time. While art is widely discussed in many forms, one thing is for sure, art provides an outlet
During the beginning of the Nazi development. Nazis made posters to shape the Hitler regime legitimacy. The poster shows that there are leaders from different periods. It puts Hitler with emperors in parallel, such as king, prince and marshal, which meaning is that to convey the German militarism and the supreme spirit of leader. The title specially emphasizes the identity of Hitler, who was a soldier. Although the soldiers’ status below other three leaders that can highlight leader’s strong volition and personality
In order to familiarise myself with the above topic, I have invested much time reading vast selection of the portraiture art themes with aim to get acquainted with the knowledge and the language used in this particular subject. It was very challenging and entertaining to read comprehensive range of various critiques and analysis of the world best paintings stretching from ancient classic to contemporary western image. Developing understanding of the diverse art expressions and social and political influences tha...
Art has a knack for drawing attention; this is why activists use it as a way to strengthen community awareness. Take my own experience; my occupation is in the Early Childhood Education field. Early childhood educators and
The word art is an encompassing one, vastly interpreted and with multiple definitions. In the case of Picasso's painting Guernica, art informs, educates and expresses. Its power lies in its ability to capture and compel an audience nearly six decades after the modern world's "other" day of infamy. To understand fully the painting that evolved out of the Spanish painter's outrage, one must know its context. "Why do you think I date everything I do? Because it is not sufficient to know an artist's works--it is also necessary to know when he did them, why, under what circumstances" (Picasso). An appreciator who knows the saga of Spain's historical fishing village is given a depth of experience that only a genius like Picasso could portray --"it may well be the most terrifying document on the horrors of war ever to be produced by an artist" (Wertenbaker 126).
Pablo Picasso is one of the most recognized and popular artists of all time. In Pablo’s paintings and other works of art, he would paint what he was passionate about and you can see his emotions take control throughout his paintings and other works of art. Pablo Picasso works of art include not only paintings but also prints, bronze sculptures, drawings, and ceramics. Picasso was one of the inventors of cubism. ” Les Demoiselles d'Avignon” is one of Picasso famous paintings; this is also one of Pablo’s first pieces of cubism.
For over two thousand years, various philosophers have questioned the influence of art in our society. They have used abstract reasoning, human emotions, and logic to go beyond this world in the search for answers about arts' existence. For philosophers, art was not viewed for its own beauty, but rather for the question of how art and artists can help make our society more stable for the next generation. Plato, a Greek philosopher who lived during 420-348 B.C. in Athens, and Aristotle, Plato’s student who argued against his beliefs, have no exceptions to the steps they had to take in order to understand the purpose of art and artists. Though these two philosophers made marvelous discoveries about the existence of art, artists, and aesthetic experience, Plato has made his works more controversial than Aristotle.
Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in (architecture) to the movies we see (theatre) to the books that we read (literature). Even in ancient culture art has played a crucial role. In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
Art is not useless as Oscar Wilde stated; nor is it the death of logic by emotion as Plato supposed. Art is an activist trying to inform and shape the social consciousness. Art by nature is critical and questions how the world is perceived. These questions are pivotal in creating change within society. The Armory Show, a major turning point in American art, for example, was inspired by shifting perceptions of the aesthetic and a stirring toward modernity. The Armory Show was an artistic rebellion against the juries, prizes, and restricted exhibitions that excluded unacademic and yet t...
Human’s have always struggled to express themselves. Art, is considered by many to be the ultimate form of human expression. Many assume that art has a definition, but this is not the case. Art, it can be said, is “in the eye of the beholder.” This simply means that what you consider art, someone else would not. Art is part of a person’s internal emotions, which signifies why different people see art as different things. Every type of culture and era presents distinctive and unique characteristics. Different cultures all have different views of what art can, and would be, causing art itself to be universally renowned throughout the world.
