Television has evolved into a significant accessory of American households. At first, television seemed like a “social breakthrough;” however it has claimed control over several aspects of daily life. The most detrimental consequences from watching television are found in adolescents. Children are susceptible to various levels of influence; therefore society should prioritize the type of behavior modeled for them. Television has the ability to “traumatize children.” (Boyse) The impact television has over society hinders the ability for many to recognize the dangers that come from it. Negative outcomes from too much screen time at a young age include: obesity, irregular sleep patterns, behavioral problems, even impair academic performance (Mayo). Due to the conclusions drawn from research and observational studies, one is able to support the claim that young children watching television obtains far more downfalls such as health problems, behavior abnormalities, and unfit lifestyles than benefits such as convenience.
When you are a child you are influenced by many things. The things you hear, smell, and most of all the things you see. When children watch something scary they can continue to tell themselves over and over that it isn’t real but saying that is much harder for them to do than for older teens and adults. Watching scary movies or shows can trigger many things. It can start insomnia due to the child being scared of something or someone that might hurt him/her at night, as well as being very hostile towards people because they may have the image of people being out to hurt them. If someone kid wanted to play catch, instead of being lazy and sitting watching a show the parent would have the opportunity to do so with their child. A world without television would make America a better place. It would let children be less neglected by parents; it would lower obesity rates and make the world a better place to be in.

Ultimately, the importance of promoting a change in the amount of television a young child is exposed to goes beyond a few households. Television prohibits kids to experience a “carefree childhood.” The consequences of an hour in front of a screen out weigh the short term benefits. So don’t have a television in your house in the first place so there will be no room for any mistakes and any problems like these.
