Addiction. When thinking of this word individuals vision a person whose life has been ruined by the dependence on a substance. While alcohol and drugs are both often correlated to the word addiction, it is forgotten that the physiological and psychological compulsive dependence can not only be for a substance but also a behavior. Individuals forget that behavioral addictions are just as destructive to a person and the negative effects can be compared to those of a drug addiction. As technology keeps evolving people seem to be moving along with the change. In today’s world people are bombarded with different devices that can access various forms of media. People have access to this twenty four hours a day and although many would argue these new technologies have bettered there lives some would say that it has evolved into a never ending distraction. Like other addiction, media addiction causes the individual to become dependent on media through various means and this often conflicts with the everyday tasks they are to complete.

Today most cellphones are smart phones that hold the potential of feeding the different types of media addictions. Smart phone have access to the internet which leads to the access of video streaming, online gaming, social networking, online gambling, and pornography. Cellphones are at the reach of most individuals and they are available almost everywhere providing an escape from reality in a matter of seconds. Continually having to act on those urges cause the person to feel abnormal if they cannot act on the impulse of reaching for there phone.
