Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns aren’t very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection when used correctly. The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”; does this grant everyone the right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens.
Guns aren 't living objects that can pick their victims and shoot at will. Guns require a person to pull the trigger. On the topic of ideal gun control, instead of banning gun use, Karl Simon writes, "...the 'ideal ' gun control program is one that does not pose serious barriers to the possession of handguns for legitimate purposes, but does effectively inhibit the use of handguns in crime by a method which has low cost to the criminal justice system and to society at large" (Simon,
Don’t change the laws, just enforce them better. Gun control is a very large and very controversial issue in our country today. Disarming civilians, though, is not the way to deal with armed criminals. The government should let us keep our rifles, shotguns, and handguns, because we have proven ourselves by means of a background check to be responsible citizens. If we ban guns, we lose our best chance at defending ourselves from criminals who get guns illegally.
They should do background checks for any mental illnesses, past criminal activity including petty crime, and whether or not they contribute to the community. Government should not be able to dictate that a normal law abiding citizen who owns a gun for personal protection of home and property is responsible for all of the crime. What the law makers do not understand is that criminals are going to get guns no matter what. It does not matter how strict the laws are. They could ban gun sales all together and it would not stop criminals from obtaining guns.
According to Joe Lienhard, these regulations only apply to gun dealers. If someone couldn't buy a gun because they failed the background check, they could still get one from a private owner or a gun show. These laws simply don't do what they are intended to do. Criminals can still get guns if they want. All these laws do is make it harder for law-abiding citizens to get guns.
Obviously this is not the answer but there are people that believe this would work. There are also a lot of people that know this would never work. The main reason is because criminals are not going to care if the crime they are committing is with an illegal weapon or not. They are already committing a crime, what's one more going to hurt. A majority of crimes committed with guns are committed with illegally bought firearms.
Gun control is an awfully big issue in the United States today. Many people in America don’t agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns and freedom away from law-abiding citizens. Many citizens have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun?
In the United States many people believe gun control will decrease the amount of crime, but gun control merely takes guns away from citizens who use firearms for protection; taking away people’s rights to carry a gun will not stop a criminal from obtaining a weapon. There has been studies shown that gun control does not decrease the crime rate. Criminals do not need a gun to harm someone, a criminal can use anything to hurt someone. Making gun control more strict is depriving citizens of their rights. Making gun control laws more strict is leaving citizens helpless if they do not have any means of protection against a would-be shooter.
Gun Control in the United States Gun control is a very heated issue within the country. There are advocates for both sides for wanting stricter gun control and less gun control. Firearms are such a big part of American history that it has been included in our constitution as one of our inalienable rights. The people who want stricter gun control believe that making it harder to get guns and limiting the types of guns people can use makes everyone safer since there’s less firearms in the public. Those who want more lax gun laws believe that it acts as a deterrent and as a safety measure to protect innocent citizens and themselves.
So even with all the shootings and random acts of violence, gun control laws should not happen because people will be safer with guns around. It seems as though the government has not looked at the ways that guns can provide safety. Also how gun control laws are not working in those areas that have them. Even though guns get a bad reputation by the government and gun control supporters as being dangerous, I think that they are necessary for obvious reasons, and that gun control will not help stop those violent crimes.
