The 21st century lives in a much different society than centuries before. The biggest difference that has taken place in the last twenty or so years is the rapid use of electronic technology. Technology is a wonderful resource for people, but like anything, it has it’s negative attributes. One negative trait it has brought to people is the modern twist on bullying. Cyber bullying is the use of electronic technology to harass someone. It can take place at anytime and to everyone, whether directly or indirectly, is somehow affected by it. Behind the monitors lie people who can be hurt from a simple click. Cyber bullying is the modern violence of the current world we live in. It’s newer, easier, and more harmful take on traditional bullying.

For example, one can have a pizza delivered to their doorstep or schedule a doctor 's appointment over video chat. People are constantly looking for new ways to do things and the same goes for bullying. Someone doesn’t even have to use their voices or physical body to hurt someone, but can simply send a short text. All it takes is a one text, email, call, or message to potentially cause someone to have poor self-esteem, inflict self harm, or even commit suicide and with almost everyone having a cellphone or electronic device, anyone could be targeted. Accessibility to cyber bully is so easy to anyone.
The last reason that cyber bullying is so different from traditional bullying is that cyber bullying is far more damaging. It’s safe to say that words are powerful, whatever the context. However, being told a cruel word in person is one thing, but being told a cruel word on the powerful internet it another.
