For Hundreds of years people have migrated to America in search of better opportunity. Immigrants are an essential part of American history; they have shaped the states by creating a diverse and unique cultural population in America and fueled the industrial revolution in search of better opportunity and a way to support a growing family. In the past, immigrates that came to America have promoted change through reform and have always had a positive outlook on the United States due to their freedom to grow and start a better life. However, immigration has now come to a halt due to outdated immigration policies and recent problems in America. From this, many attempt and succeed in sneaking into the country illegally. The increasing problem with the immigration policy and illegal immigration has started to reshape America in a negative way, which has forced the government to no longer ignore the situation. Change is inevitable; however, the United States needs to work to make positive immigration reforms that will increase the economy and security of America. With our current immigration policy, people wanting to come to the United States forced to wait years to do so due to the long processes and paperwork involved. Not only do they have to spend a great deal of time and money to get here, but people wanting to settle in America have to fall into a small group of people that have been deemed “qualified” to become a United States citizen. An option immigrants have to obtain a visa is through family-based immigration. People qualify for this visa by being a close relative to a United States citizen. For example, spouses, parents, and children of an Untied States citizen all qualify for these visas. For a visa like this to be granted... ... middle of paper ... ...t our current government policies are outdated and inefficient. It has been nearly three decades since the last time Congress reformed our immigration system. From the Reagan era to the Obama administration, the country has undergone financial, social and political changes yet our immigration policies continue to be the same. Since the implementation of the last immigration reform in 1986, the United States government has spent nearly $187 billion ($220 billion when adjusted to 2013 dollars) in immigration enforcement agencies and programs alone (Meissner, Kerwin, Muzaffar & Bergeron, 2013). The high costs and the increasing public concern has led Americans to recognize the brokenness of our current immigration system and how it has not kept up with changing times. Research has shown 71% of Americans say undocumented immigrants should have a pathway to remain in the country legally (Pew Research Center, 2013). Although Congress and the White House have had numerous failed attempts to pass immigration reform in the past, H.R. 15 proposes an updated bipartisan system that can further secure the borders and solve problems surrounding immigration (Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act, 2013.
It has been a long debated topic whether or not America should continue to let immigrants enter the country. Often, the immediate response would be to withhold more immigrants to come in since there are many existing immigrants already living everywhere around the United States. But the truth is that the immigrants who come in are undoubtedly helping America much more than they harm it. Examples of how the immigrants help would be the economy becoming more powerful, diverse culture, more variety, and even creating job opportunities. By maintaining an open gate for immigrants, the benefits that they bring will definitely outweigh the problems which will create a greater America.
...verify their employees are eligible to work in the U.S. legally. Immigrants have said they are going to be proactive in these programs and acts but there hasn’t been much movement as of now. Immigrants came here for the same reason that families have always come here and that is the American dream. Immigration started in the 1840s and will most likely never stop, but our county need to take more action in controlling it. United States citizens like to believe that people should have the chance to better themselves. That is why people come to the United States to make things better for themselves. Immigrants come here to have freedom of religion, to be able to have a proper education and to have better paying jobs. At this point these immigrants are hurting out economy and it needs to be addressed by passing these acts or government creating more acts to control it.
...rol. The government needs to stop illegal immigration and get back to the late 1800s America. The old United States encouraged legal immigration instead of helping illegal immigrants. America has always been a country built on immigration, and it should not let it’s major cause of growth become the major cause of it’s decline.

For over ten years, efforts to make changes to the United States immigration system have been put aside due to wars, attacks within our homeland and even worldwide financial crisis but it seems as though this being brought up more and more often. The history of the US immigration policy was more concerned with immigration enforcement over immigration reform. It was not until a few years ago that the US citizens voted they were tired of enforcement-only immigration policies and the pain they caused on immigrant families. So most feel now is the time to draw up new immigration laws that reflect American values and beliefs, and it ne...

Immigration has quickly come to the surface as one of the United States’ major problems. More specifically, illegal immigration on the Mexican border. Everyday more and more people sneak across the border in hopes of a better life. Many Americans consider it to be a bad thing, but it is not. In some ways these people do improve our country. People of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds cross the border. Many are women and children looking to start over. About 175,900 immigrants enter the US every year from Mexico. Some things that come along with immigration are border militarization, amnesty, deportation, and the threat of terrorism.

International migration in the development context relates both to people that have chosen to move of their own accord , and forced migrants that can ultimately end up contributing to both their country of resettlement and possibly their country of origins if it is ever safe to return . Development meanwhile , is a dynamic process implying growth , advancement , empowerment and progress with the goal of increasing human capabilities . Contemplating for a change the large community of immigrants hopes for immigration laws to be permanently reformed for better opportunities , growth as a nation , and development in modern day American society . The ultimate goal is to enlarge the scope of human choices and creating a safe and secure environment where citizens can live with dignity and equality . We are able to identify the development immigrants have had and can see how highly entrepreneurial they become . Research from the Small Business Administration suggests that immigrants are more likely to start a business than are non-immigrants
With an estimated 11.7 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. today, immigration reform has been a volatile issue that hasn’t been adequately addressed throughout the 21st century. With the last major overhaul occurring in 1986, when over 3 million immigrants were granted U.S. citizenship, politicians are saying another major overhaul is needed to address the newer generation of illegal immigrants. Legislations including the Border Protection, Anti-terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006, and the DREAM act of 2012 have all tried to address the depressing need for immigration reform but have failed due to lack of bipartisan support. Still, political leaders urge for immigration reform that is unlikely to pass with such divided political parties. Luckily, the solution was already passed in 1986 but hasn’t been sufficiently enforced for the past twenty years. In order to stop the flood of illegals crossing U.S. borders, the U.S. should enforce the law against hiring illegal immigrants.
The first major concern regarding the borders for the United States is illegal immigration. In January of 2000, the INS estimated that there were 7 million illegal immigrants in the United States with the number growing by about 500,000 a year. Under the Bush Administration, funding has increased along main entry points, displacing illegal immigrants points of entry into the country. Yet the increase has displaced immigration to rural immigration points, causing many every year to die from starvation and heat stroke. Despite the harsh conditions, immigration has grown rather th...

A child reunites with his or her mother for the first time in forever, put yourself in their shoes and imagine what it would be like. How would you feel? Immigration has been an important and frequently debated topic in the U.S. because of many people migrate here legally and illegally and the effects it has in the country, but first what is immigration? According to the Oxford dictionary, Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. In the last few years, a lot has changed with the Immigration policy in the United States. According to American Immigration Council (AIC), the body of law governing current immigration policy, provides for an annual worldwide limit of 675,000 permanent immigrants, with certain exceptions for close family members (AIC, 2014). Everyone has different opinions about the change, but I am more interested in the reason behind why people migrate to United
