INTRODUCTION
Invisibility was one the most sought after abilities and fantasies from the Invisible Man, and Harry Potter to the Predator movies; it featured significantly in science fiction. In reading the article, ‘Scientists create invisibility cloak’, it can be seen that the ability continues to be sought by scientists today. To try and achieve this researchers are looking at and deepening their understanding of the nature of light. The modern research carried out are elaborations of the work done by Thomas Young and Francesco Grimaldi who’s work formed the foundations of our current understanding of the nature of light.

Waves and Interference
Wave motion is said to be the most common type of motion; it’s the cause of sound reaching our ears, light reaching our eyes and electromagnetic waves to our radios and televisions, along with disasters such as tidal waves and earthquakes. Wave motion can be defined as a, “…mechanism by which energy is transported from a source to a distant receiver without the transfer of matter between the two points” (Besancon, 1990) and are classified by how they are produced, for example, a vibrating material or an electrical oscillations in an aerial. The most important classification involves a medium’s direction of motion (a medium is a substance that the wave is travelling through) or in the case of electromagnetic waves the direction of motion of the electric or magnetic field. This direction is in reference to the direction of energy in the wave itself. (Besancon, 1990)

James Wright was a poet that dealt with many hardships in his life, but he found a way to turn those negative moments into beautiful works of poetry. As a child, he lived in poverty with his family and later on suffered with depression and alcoholism. Growing up in Ohio, Wright learned how to work hard which is reflected in his poetic achievements. Wright turned his struggles into poems and for him to be able to achieve success through his pain is what makes his work American. Frank McShane wrote “The Search for Light” in Peter Stit and Frank Graziano’s James Wright: A Profile, and in the book McShane includes: “James Wright knew how restricted most American lives were” (131). In the French coastal town of Saint- Malo in August 1944, War World II is coming to its high point. The allies are landing and fighting against Germany. Anthony Doerr’s “All the Light We Cannot See” is a historical fiction book, with a wide-ranging language and characters who are both courageous and heartbreaking. Doerr brings together the stories of a French girl named Marie-Laure, who has lost her eyesight and a German orphan named Werner. As Hitler upsurges, Marie-Laure and Werner lives and families are torn apart by the war. Anthony Doerr 's’ use of imagery, and metaphor, he stresses the damage of life that war creates. In seismology, there are several types of waves studied, each of these waves have characteristics that define them. Seismic waves can be split into two categories, and they are body waves and surface waves. Body waves travel and move within the earths subsurface and inner layers. There are two types of body waves, P-Waves also known as compressional waves or primary waves, and S-Waves also called secondary or shear waves. The S-Waves have a vertical (Sv) and horizontal (Sh) component. “In an infinite homogenous isotropic medium, only P and S waves exist” (Telford et. al, 1990). On the other hand, as indicated by the name, surface waves travel and move along the surface of the earth. In general, surface waves have a lower frequency than body waves, therefore, they can easily be distinguished from body waves on a seismogram. There are two types of surface waves, Love waves and Rayleigh Waves. Love waves is the fastest surface wave, its movement mainly consists of a side to side completely horizontal motion. Rayleigh (1885) waves are surface waves that “roll” along the ground; they are a consequence of interfering P and Sv-Waves. Our project
Altering an audience's opinion is a struggle that many writers face; it is always possible, however, to unite the reader with the speaker's position. In Paradise Lost by John Milton, the author attempted to persuade his readers into thinking that the theme of obedience to God will keep you in a blissful state and disobedience will keep you in a wretched state by the use of light in his books. God is associated with a radiant white light; while on the other hand, Satan is affiliated with a dark shady black. With this use of this contrast of symbolism of light and dark, there is a clear distinction that light is righteousness and more desired than the darkness, which is evilness and bad.

The book All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer, was not your traditional love and war story. It’s about a young blind girl named Marie growing up in the war, who had a connection with a young boy named Werner who is a part of the Hitler youth. There are a few other characters who are all in different parts of the world, and yet they eventually all meet up together and find out they all have some type of connection between each other. All of the characters in the book were affected by the war, and caused them to change into the characters that they ended up to be.
As the story of the” Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison continues, the reader is able to explicitly see his journey in college. Invisibility as well as blindness is evident in these stories. Through the use of metaphor and vivid details the author once again conveys his message of how invisibility is a major part in his life.
In many cases, freewill is either present or non existent in children. During world war two, many children in Germany were deprived of their free will, and when the war was over, many German citizens were left scrambling to find freewill again. In All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, one of the main characters, Werner, struggles with finding his voice and his freewill within a Hitler youth training school. During his experience there, he stands by and watches as one of his only friends is bullied and in the end left as a shell of his existence. Werner struggles with what he should of done and if it really is beneficial to blend in with the rest of the boys at the school; while Werner may recognize his wrongdoings and the wrongdoings of others, he feels
Rene Descartes’ natural light is his saving grace, and not Achilles’ heel. Descartes incorporates the concept of natural light within his epistemology in order to establish the possibility of knowing things completely without doubt. In fact whatever is revealed to the meditator via the natural light is considered to be indefeasible. The warrant for the truth of these ideas does not rely on experience or the senses. Rather the truth of the idea depends on viewing the concept through clear and distinct perception. Descartes’ “I am, I exist”, (Med. 2, AT 7:25) or the ‘cogito’ is meant to serve as the basis for knowing things through clear and distinct perception. Descartes’ cogito is the first item of knowledge, although one may doubt such things as the existence of the body, one cannot doubt their ability to think. This is demonstrated in that by attempting to doubt one’s ability to think, one is engaging in the action of thought, thus proving that thinking is immune to doubt. With this first item of knowledge Descartes can proceed with his discussion of the possibility of unshakeable knowledge. However, Descartes runs into some difficulty when natural light collides with the possibility of an evil genie bent on deceiving the meditator thus putting once thought concrete truths into doubt. This investigation will inquire about the nature of light and how it behaves when a beam of light travels through a clear glass block. This investigation is important so the way light behaves can be investigated further, as this investigation will act as the basis of knowledge for future experiments and investigations. It will also help understand the behaviour of light when it travels through different objects.
Refraction of Light Aim: To find a relationship between the angles of incidence and the angles of refraction by obtaining a set of readings for the angles of incidence and refraction as a light ray passes from air into perspex. Introduction: Refraction is the bending of a wave when it enters a medium where it's speed is different. The refraction of light when it passes from a fast medium to a slow medium bends the light ray toward the normal to the boundary between the two media. The amount of bending depends on the indices of refraction of the two media and is described quantitatively by Snell's Law. (Refer to diagram below)
Light can be classified as a form of electromagnetic radiation, which includes visible light. The ‘light’ commonly referred to in everyday life belongs in this category. The electromagnetic spectrum includes other types of radiation such as gamma rays, radio waves and cosmic rays, all of which possess distinct wavelengths, frequencies and energy levels. These forms of electromagnetic radiation are not visible to the human eye but can be perceived by selected species of animals, such as bees. Figure 1 below displays the electromagnetic spectrum and provides a basic insight into the respective characteristics of different forms of radiation.
Tadao Ando is an architect of light, a master of space, and a builder for mankind. His work, realized primarily in precisely finished reinforced concrete, unifies building and nature to create a deep sense of sanctuary. Ando was born in Osaka, Japan in 1941. From the age of 10 to 17, he was employed as a carpenter, learning to work in wood in the Japanese tradition. His interest in architecture began when he obtained a book of Le Corbusier sketches when he was about 18. Ando is a self-taught architect. He apprenticed for brief periods with local designers and city planners, but primarily developed his skills by reading extensively, studying Japanese shrines, temples and tea houses, and making study
