The Nature of Gallipoli and the Death of War

World War 1 was an enormous war that engulfed the lives of many. Many nations were dragged into never ending battles of bloodshed. There were battles of massacre; one was the Battle of Gallipoli. The warfare contributed to those one sided battles; warfare was improving and changing on land and in seas causing more men to lose their lives, creating more casualties then people of the time thought were possible. The Battle of Gallipoli was never a fight the Australians were going to win. It actually was never their fight to begin with. Australia was dragged into World War 1 by Britain, their ally. They were supposed to come in, help, and go home, but the war had different plans. That battle was supposed to be a diversion for the British soldiers to attack elsewhere. However, in truth, it was a suicide mission and at the time none of the Australian men knew of this. The Australian soldiers were in good spirits, believing that they were about to fight for their country. They believed it was their right, their duty, to fight. Many of the men were young and naïve and hadn’t realized what the result of battle was, death. As the movie showed, the men were ready to climb over the trench and fight the Turks, Britain’s enemies, their enemies. Once the first wave of men had climbed over and had been wiped out, the rest of the soldiers started to realize what this battle was. They knew they were going to die. Wave after wave, they climbed over the trench and were shot down. No matter how many men died, it seemed as if the men in the higher positions didn’t care; they viewed the infantry as units of soldiers, not groups of young men who would die fighting in this pointless mission. They wanted them to continue, believing the British would succee... ... middle of paper ... ...stating event in history. The art of warfare was changed forever for all people and many terrains. Many lands were demolished and many people were slaughtered. The war brought nations from across the globe to fight each other in a failing attempts to conquer and bring peace. The people who started WW1 would never have imagined it to become such a global war and for it to have caused as much damage as it did. They believed it would be the war to end all wars, a quick way to release all issues between the countries, but it turned into the war of all wars, killing more men than ever before.
