The Narrative of Frederick Douglass is an extraordinary passage to the life Douglass had to go through as a young man. The book talks about the struggles Douglass had to go through to achieve his freedom as an African American man. As we begin reading we immediately start to feel the overwhelming emotions, and obstacles he had to overcome. As we unfold to our own knowledge we start reading and discover he was brought up in the eighteen hundreds were slavery was a major issue. In the first chapter we start to get the idea of how hard it was to grow up in this era, for example, a few months after he was born he was taken away from his mother he only saw her a few times after that, and shortly we learned that she passes away " Death soon ended …show more content…

He wanted to let everyone know what he had gone through to achieve the dream of becoming a free man. Douglas let everyone know through his writing that slaves were only seen as property to white man. A slave in the eighteen hundreds did not have feelings to white man they only wanted to see their future grow with the sweat of a hard working African American man. One important point throughout the whole book was that even though Douglas wrote the book in person person, he wanted to illustrate that he was not the only one going through such harsh times because he address many stories of slaves throughout the book to show that some slaves masters were cruel in many different levels. The main point of the book was to show awareness , but I also think it goes hand in hand on why I think he wrote the book? As an African American man to overcome the brutalities and cruelties that you experience during the period of slavery is to want to write and show that you were capable to learned and never give up during very hard situations. I believe that is why he wrote the book? to prove a point that it does not matter what obstacles life throws at you? What really matters is having faith that you will overcome them? ,and that you will succeed in
