Self Questionnaire: The Myer Briggs Type Indicator

The Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, or the MTBI, is a self questionnaire that is used to find out the psychological preferences in how people make decisions and perceive the world. Created by Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, the Myer-Briggs was based on the personality types theory proposed by Carl Jung. He believed that there were four main psychological functions of experiencing the world for humans, sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. I took the Myer-Briggs test and was deemed a mediator or INFP multiple times.I found that many of what was written about INFP related to my life. And so I wondered how accurate and reliable the Myer-Briggs test was and its relations with careers.

Some of the categories are romantic relationships, friendships, and career paths. The career paths section stood out to me the most due to the fact it weirdly related a lot to me. It talked about how pretty much every INFP’s dream growing up was to be an author. When i was younger, i was what was considered to be a bookworm and always wanted to be an author. That caught my eye in how strangely random and accurate that statement was. Much of what was written described me and even the career paths such as psychology and massage therapy that were listed pertained to me. Right now i am majoring in psychology and have always thought about massage therapy and still do. And so what i wondered was the relationship between your personality result and career paths. From the paper “Measuring the MBTI...And Coming Up Short”, by David J. Pittenger he writes about the relationship between MBTI type and occupation. “Finally, there is no evidence to show a positive relation between MBTI type and success within an occupation.” Although it lists the career paths, in my example, psychology and massage therapy, there 's no guarantee that I will have any success in those careers. And Pittenger continues to explain how there 's no evidence that one personality is better at one job than another personality type and in how one is satisfied with their certain
