Inspirational Christian music, more commonly termed Contemporary Christian music happens to dominate the listening genre of worshipers in Christianity. This genre has evolved over time to accommodate younger listeners, and the key to this success is the incorporation of popular or modern elements of other song genres like pop, rock and other non-classified Christian music. “Overcome” by Jeremy Camp begins with the singer’s vocal along with the sound of a guitar to convey messages and meaning to the song. The introduction or intro to the song used just a single guitar. Further into the song, other musical instruments like piano and drums were introduced to buffer the singer’s vocals. Any listener to this song will notice the entrance and distinct sound of the guitar used, and for this song, the electric guitar is used throughout, with changing chords. The electric guitar is a guitar that uses electricity to amplify and enhance the volume and quality respectively, of the acoustics desired from this instrument. Acoustic-electric guitar is later used in this song’s bridge and chorus as well. For younger and sophisticated music audiences, the use of an instrument like a guitar with varying chords and range entails sophistication and a mastery of music. The use of instrument also makes up for a less than stellar vocal because instrumentation envelopes a song. The idea and success of instruments like the electric guitar ensure that audiences that listen to pop and rock music, and dedicated to instruments appreciate the style and inclusion of guitar, and also treated to the same sensation but with religiously delivered
The live theatrical production I chose to see was 9 to 5 The Musical. The production was performed by Fayetteville Technical Community College’s very own Fine Arts Department. The musical is based on the film released by Fox in 1980. Collin Higgins adapted the film from the book 9 to 5 written by Patricia Resnick. It wasn’t until 2008 that the film was adapted to a theatrical production. The production was originally brought to broadway by Robert Greenbait and Dolly Parton wrote the lyrics and the music for the Musical. The run on broadway was very short but the production later toured in other countries around the around the world.
Religion has been an important part of man’s life. Man has allowed religion to control and influence his life in many different ways, affecting both his behavior and his actions. So its not surprising that music, one of man’s earliest expressive forms, has also been influenced by religion. Religion has had an effect on man’s music all throughout history, from the early Egyptians to even now. So it is only natural that Western music should also have been affected by religion. Western music, and its development by composers, has been strongly influenced by the Christian religion, especially in the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. The music in these periods laid the foundation for all the different types of music we enjoy today.

Our entire lives have been shaped by the events happening around us. Along with us many factors in our day to day lives have evolved too, including musical genre. One such genre is rock. Rock is a genre for the youth, by the youth, it has evolved to stay with the times and stand up for what’s right. In this essay I will prove why rock is a good example to show how genre has been defined, maintained, constructed and negotiated through the past 60-70 years since the very first Proto Rock song came out.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis1:1.) God’s perfect wisdom created everything. In Genesis 1 and 2 we can see that God has loving and gentile nature when He created the earth and heavens. God created man in his image and we are the only creation that God breathed in the breath of life for human beings (Genesis 2:7). God did not do this for any of other creations but only for humans. The Bible has many scriptures that tell us how creative God is. Genesis 1;26 states “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created all of this for us to have fellowship with him.
The foundation of a Christian worldview is the belief in a personal God, creator and ruler of the universe. The Christian worldview views the world through God’s word, providing the framework for humanity to live by giving meaning and purpose to life. It defines who Jesus is, human nature, and how salvation is achieved. In essence it is the basis of which Christians behave, interact, interpret life and comprehend reality. A Christian worldview imparts confidence, answers to life’s problems, and hope for the future. In this paper I will discuss the essentials of a Christian worldview and an analysis of the influences, benefits, and difficulties sustaining the Christian faith.
The time between 1485 and 1660 marked a period of new beginnings for the people living in England; this time is known as the Renaissance. In England, the people were challenging their past beliefs; where before the Renaissance, England thrived basing their lives, government, and music off of God and his principles alone. During these one-hundred and seventy-five years, the English people started questioning their original principles about religion and established a yearning for information and proof based off of science instead of God. This desire caused many changes to form in England. The Renaissance period quickly became known as the rebirth of knowledge named by the change from God’s knowledge to the knowledge of man. The Renaissance brought on many changes to English culture especially in their music. There was a rise in secular, or non-religious music, instrumental music, and dance music. Although the English Renaissance occurred many centuries ago, the major changes in musical styles are evident in both spiritual and secular music.

Gospel music is mostly American music reflected by significant songs. Gospel music was created as a type of Christian worship and spiritual singing which is associated with African-American worship1. Executed by soloists, choirs and groups with vocals and harmony within the churches. There are two main types of gospel music: Urban Gospel started around 1899 had its roots mostly in spirituals songs sung by the slaves in the south around the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries which is associated with the Black churches. Southern Gospel started around 1910 which is associated with the white churches. Gospel music is a genre of Christian music. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Gospel music began in the 1920’s, across the Southside of America. Many people in church listened to the blues, but a man name Dorsey introduced Gospel, a style of music that was totally sacred nor wholly secular. One of the very first things taught in this class was the concept of the Qur'anic recitation. It is a practice reciting different passages in the Quran. Much to the frustration of those who take part in this practice, it is often mistaken for music by those who are not very familiar with the idea. Music in this culture, however, is considered a nonreligious thing and is thought to be “secular” and “profane”. I found this extremely different from music in Africa, for example, where music plays a huge role in religion. Praise dances are very common in West African cultures where music and religion go hand in hand. Music is most often present in worship and passage rites, as well.
