Proudest moment Being a “prepa” at UPRM is one of the most grateful experiences in life. I’m sure there’s no other university where students are prouder of the place where they are going to spend the hardest years of their life, academically talking. One of the best and happiest moments of this last years of my life was the day which I received my acceptance letter. I remember I was on class and was a little desperate because of the fact that everybody had their letter since they were from other universities. But Mayaguez was one of the last campus of the UPR to send acceptance letters. That Friday someone said he got his letter so I got out of school hoping that my letter would be home when I get there. So I get home and there was nothing. I could tell I was really scared because of And most of all waiting for that thing they called “prepa week”. Not just because of those parties they throw at night which everybody talked about. I have to accept I went out all days of the week, and can assure you it was the best week of my life. I was really waiting for all those orientations which they give you on that week. What I wasn’t really expecting was, that in that week I was going to get not just one of the best memories of my life, but the proudest moment of my life. The feeling you have when you get in there in Rafael Mangual is something you can’t describe with words. At first you can’t avoid feeling extremely afraid, and more when you get there with no one and worse than this, no one you know is in the concentration which you are in. Then when they start screaming and all, you just start to lose some fear. You really feel like you know everyone on there in the concentration. When you first listen to the phrase that says “ANTES AHORA Y SIEMPRE…COLEGIO” there’s something that gets inside of you which you really can’t avoid, it’s something that doesn’t let you not
As a young child, Rodriguez finds comfort and safety in his noisy home full of Spanish sounds. Spanish, is his family's' intimate language that comforts Rodriguez by surrounding him in a web built by the family love and security which is conveyed using the Spanish language. "I recognize you as someone close, like no one outside. You belong with us, in the family, Ricardo.? When the nuns came to the Rodriquez?s house one Saturday morning, the nuns informed the parents that it would be best if they spoke English. Torn with a new since of confusion, his home is turned upside down. His sacred family language, now banished from the home, transforms his web into isolation from his parents. "There was a new silence in the home.? Rodriguez is resentful that it is quiet at the dinner table, or that he can't communicate with his parents about his day as clearly as before. He is heartbroken when he overhears his mother and father speaking Spanish together but suddenly stop when they see Rodriguez. Thi...
As my father and I finally fit the statue of the little Virgin Mary in the back of the car, it was time to get on the road. I could already taste the guavas from my great grandfather’s ranch. Feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. The smell of my aunt’s cooking. Hearing the excitement of my great grandmother’s voice. I wanted to be there already, be in the beautiful country of Mexico. My thoughts wandered as we left my house. How much welcome, love, and the sadness of leaving was going to happen. It was too soon to find out.
Notwithstanding it was my first day at the school, I felt rarely. My aunt took me to my first hour because I was lost. This school is the double of my school in Guatemala, I remember the first teacher that I met her name is Ms. Brunelle. When I was there I heard that the whole guys in that class were talking in Spanish something that make feel do comfortably. Then the teacher told me where my chair was then I took a seat. Someone who was next to me asked me, de que parte de Mexico eres? I was like confused because I’m not from Mexico. I replied, no soy de México soy de Guatemala. He laughs and told me, pero si tienes el nopal en la frente, something that I didn’t understand at that moment. Later on that day, the same guy heard
The best day in my life was when I got promoted from the fourth grade to the sixth grade, or so I thought. I had been held back in fourth grade which meant I did fourth grade twice. So of course I was elated when a new program started the next year that allowed me to skip the fifth grade and go right into my sixth grade year. I rejoined my class and reconnected with my friends. All was right with the work again. The problem with skipping the fourth grade was that although I was socially on target, I was academically behind.
I stood in the town square of the small village. Like any other normal day, people were going about their day-to-day business. Old men sat on a wooden bench beneath a large tree and predicted this year’s crop. Women shared town gossip as they shopped for groceries, and children sucked on lollipops while they played along the cobblestone streets. However, unlike any other day, the whole crowd had stopped in unison and darted their eyes in my direction, their full attention on me. I heard hushed whispers as I passed by the crowd, “Americano!” “Oh mio Dio, guarda com’è alto!” I lowered my head as I thought to myself, “What the hell am I doing here? I’m in a country where I don’t know the language or the culture, and I have another nine and a half months until I go home!” I didn’t know it then, but those nine and a half months that lay in front of me would be the experience that would challenge my views and goals and help shape the person I am today.
Waves I am a raging inferno of emotions. When I feel, I feel every single part of whatever it may be, even the ones they might think to be most insignificant. When I am cold, it feels as if hell has frozen over Earth. When I am sad, I do not find an ounce of happiness in the whole world.
Success, is a term with relative meaning depending on what aspect of life it is associated with. I view success in terms of achievements, fulfillment, and accomplishments. I set goals, and I do what it takes to make them happen, by dedicating my time, intelligence, skills to achieve them. I make sure that at the end of the day I can be proud of my work, knowing that I invested myself a hundred percent. Goals are a very important aspect of life, they are like maps that guides you, because if you do not know where you are going, how would you know when you get there. All aspects of my life are intertwine, and accomplishing something in my personal life have repercussion on how I feel in my professional life, and vice versa. I do not measure success on the size of my bank account, the size of my house, or what kind of car I drive, but instead I assess how happy and filled my life is. Filled with family, friends, love, happiness, and that is what I use to determines how successful I feel.
Some memories are best forgotten, but it takes courage to go through them. Often, I wish to forget the day when I almost lost my parents in a tragic car accident. As my world came crumbling down, I prayed and hoped that the nightmare would soon end. I endlessly fought the sense of helplessness, isolation and fear of the uncertainty. I was 19 and clueless. Nevertheless, I sailed through these dreadful days and welcomed my parents home after six long months. In the months that followed my parent’s return, I juggled between taking care of my parents, graduating college and adjusting to my new job. Almost 10 years later, this dark phase still has a phenomenal impact on me. Perhaps, because this specific experience transformed me into a grateful,
Lets start out by stating the obvious, success is something that is rewarded to you when you achieve and accomplish a task, easy or hard. Many people have many takes on success and what is the correct success, but I’m here to tell you that success occurs in our everyday lives. For example, you may not realize how successful it is to finally beat someone in a sport or online game that you have had many unsuccessful attempts at. But ask yourself this question, “do you know someone that is a superstar with boat loads of money and fame? Is he or she confident, popular, and happy all the time-the mainstream version of success? Or, on the other hand, is he or she stressed working hard to make ends meet, while enjoying life without paparazzi in their face. As you read through this paper, you will realize that fast cars, G4 private planes, and eloquent Hollywood parties do not entirely derive success. Success is a result of doing the right things consistently and joyfully.
There are numerous lessons that I have learned from life, they were lessons that I learned from good and bad experiences in life. Different experiences from school and out of school that has made me the way I am today. There is a long list of experiences that in reality did not teach me much.
I believe that hard work is the real treasure of a person because without hard work we cannot achieve our dreams and goals in life. No one can achieve success without doing hard work. It starts when we stop looking for alternatives or shortcuts towards success. We need to remember that there are no short cuts to success. Hard work, complimented with an intense desire to struggle and to achieve success is the only sure way of reaching success that you have always wanted. Hard work is one of the secret for us to be successful in life. Laziness and sluggishness makes one’s life a curse and only hard work can make your life a blessing. We cannot work hard if we don’t have goals. The meaning of goal according to Wikipedia is a desired result of a
I have made many achievements in my life. I am happy to be such an achiever at things. I remember my first achievement which was in kindergarten. In kindergarten I got on the honor roll for the first time. I was so happy, but I was just happy because my mom was happy. I didn’t even know what honor roll meant, but I finally founded out that is meant that I got all A’s. My mom was so happy for me, and I got lot of money for my A’s. After that my next achievement was that I learn how to ride a bike. When I first started to ride a bike with no training wheels I kept on falling. After I kept falling I didn’t want to learn anymore, but I saw that my little cousin was riding a bike, so I just had to learn how to ride a bike. Finally, after all the sores and burses, I learned how to ride a bike. I still fall every now and then.
We’ve all had are moments when we wanted to be a hero, to wear a cape, and help others who felt they needed a helping hand. Being a hero can be so much more than saving someone from a life or death situation. In the ancient Greece modern time, a hero was a woman who was well-known and would obtain a status after a death of a lover. To the Greeks, the urgency of heroes was a mythical thing because it molded the future “heroes” (Kreyche p. 82). This dates to today’s heroes. Every mythical and non-mythical story has its heroes, especially the ones kids have created in books and movies. The definition of heroes has progressively changed throughout the years. Today, our heroes consist of a person having “great courage, especially for a noble purpose” (“heroism”). Throughout the years, heroism has been created to show one’s grateful purpose, their effects of being a hero, and what it took to keep the status of a “hero”.
Wednesday, October 13, 2013 is a date I will never forget. On that day, time stopped for a moment. I was sixteen and only had my license for a month. I was so excited about having so much freedom, that I was driving every day, with no hesitation. I was invincible,or so I thought. This day changed my thinking completely. What started out as a normal day, quickly turned into one that was very different from any other. I had just gotten out of cheer practice and was on my way home. On the way, I realized that I needed gas, so I decided to go through South Carolina, since they have the lowest gas prices. It was not out of the way, so to say. It was just another rout home. It was not the first time I had taken this way, but, it was definitely the last.
Throughout my life I have had so many embarrassing moments. The most embarrassing moment that will always come to mind is being chased by the game warden. I have had some close encounters with the game warden, but never this close before. The last time I was forced to call my parents to explain the whole entire night. Being in this situation most teen-agers would consider it to be a bad night, but for me it was more of a long embarrassing night. When the game warden was chasing me I felt scared, nervous as well as embarrassed knowing this night might not turn out to my advantage.
