Floydd Money Rainsford a man who many considered to be the best boxer that ever lived was getting ready for the biggest fight of his career. Harrison Bergeron was the up and comer that had already fought 30 times in one year and had gone undefeated. He had bulldozed through everyone that was put in front of him and now he was set to go against the undisputed champion of the world he planned on using his speed against Rainsfords brute force and strategy. Rainsford was known for his intelligence and his ways of toying with the enemy.
Rainsford’s last fight was one that many people say will last throughout the ages. Rainsford last fought with a man who was nicknamed General Zaroff. Zaroff had once been an undefeated champion ,until Rainsford stepped in and showed him what a rookie could do. Rainsford stepped in and did not use his brute force. Rainford knew Zaroff was much stronger that him ,but he also knew that Zaroff’s speed and strategy were not comparable to his own. Rainsford stepped in the ring and suddenly began using the bob and weave technique on Zaroff. Once Zaroff noticed he began throwing body shots ,but only landed one out of the five punches he attempted. When they reached round 8 Zaroff was worn out after chasing Rainsford constantly and missing so many punches. Rainsford than decided to go on the offensive he began throwing hook combinations directly at Zaroff. Zaroff kept on trying, the image was brutal. When that round ended the referee began to take a look at the fighters. Zaroff’s nose had been broken and was off to the side, his face was totally swollen, his eyes were swollen shut, and he had cuts on several areas near his cheekbones. He had not been defending himself very well. He was often only using offensiv...

...alking out the ring with fans cheering, music blaring and women all fighting over him. Rainsford was living the dream life, the life that every man wanted. He began making his dramatic entrance to the ring where he shows off his speed by shadow boxing with the beat of a rap song he than slowly approaches Harrison. Harrison then pulls out a gun from his boxing robe and shoots Rainford. The fans begin pouring into the ring they try to find Harrison ,but he was lost in the crown. The champion had died undisputed and Zaroff kept his word. People were searching for Harrison days after the murder and he was never found many say he took his own life that day. Harrison said the day of the fight,”I’m one of Rainfords biggest fans ,but money can make you do crazy things.”
No one quite knew what he meant at that moment ,but when Rainsford walked in the ring everyone found out.
Zaroff is a winner, that’s all he has ever known. If take the fact that he doesn’t lose and add it to his competitive personality; it creates one hard headed man that hates to lose. When he began to lose leverage while hunting Rainsford, he started to doubt himself. Like when Zaroff gets deceived when Rainsford jumps off the cliff and “dies”. He was deceived because later that night, Rainsford approaches Zaroff in his own home. Another situation where Zaroff begins to lose leverage is when he was slowed up by one of Rainsford traps. This got under his skin, causing him lose his composure. Lastly, when he actually loses, Rainsford feeds him to the dogs, ending his hunting career for good. All of these examples show how Zaroff walked as a loser for the first time in his
In both film and story, Rainsford expresses his lack of sympathy for his prey. Similar to the story, Rainsford meets Ivan first and can’t get through to him and then, he’s greeted by Zaroff. In the film, Zaroff knows that Rainsford is a famous hunter and has read his books, just like in the story. Moreover, Zaroff reveals that a cape buffalo gave him the scar on his head. In the same manner, Zaroff tells Rainsford how he stocks his island with human prey. Just as the film showed Zaroff has a room filled with human heads, and that’s also mentioned in the story. Furthermore, Rainsford uses the same traps (Malay Mancatcher, Burmese Tiger Pit, and a native Uganda Trick) in the film as he did in the story. In addition, Rainsford kills Ivan with the same native Uganda trick. Both film and movie, unveils that Rainsford kills

In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, there are two main characters, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. The story starts off with Rainsford and Rainsford’s hunting partner, Whitney, on a yacht heading to Rio de Janiero to hunt big game animals. Rainsford ends up becoming trapped on Ship-Trap Island, and that is where he and the reader are introduced to General Zaroff. Unfortunately for Rainsford, General Zaroff is not your normal General. General Zaroff and Rainsford are similar and different in many ways, and even though Rainsford believes that Zaroff is a sick individual, at the end of the story he becomes more like Zaroff than he realizes.
General Zaroff is described by Connell from Rainsford’s point-of-view, “Rainsford 's first impression was that the man was singularly handsome; his second was that there was an original, almost bizarre quality about the general 's face. He was a tall man past middle age, for his hair was a vivid white; but his thick eyebrows and pointed military mustache were as black as the night from which Rainsford had come. His eyes, too, were black and very bright. He had high cheekbones, a sharpcut nose, a spare, dark face--the face of a man used to giving orders, the face of an aristocrat.” (Paragraph 56). Here Connell really paints a picture in the reader 's imagination of what Zaroff’s appearance is, showing that he is tall, has a very distinctive face, and looks like a man used to giving orders to others. Later on when Rainsford and Zaroff took place in their hunting game, at one point Rainsford was hiding from Rainsford to avoid being killed. When describing what was going on from Rainsford point-of-view again, it was stated that terror was about to burst from his heart, while he was watching Zaroff smoke below the tree he was in. This really lets the reader’s mind know how much fear was going on through Rainsford during this hunting game. Here Connell really shows how his use of imagery relates to the tone of the story and how is set during
In the story, The Dangerous Game, Rainsford was justified to kill Zaroff. For example, Rainsford figures out that Zaroff doesn't want to hunt for animals anymore, but instead he wants to hunt for people. Rainsford soon realizes that Zaroff is wanting to kill him. Zaroff was originally going to kill Rainsford initially, so it only makes sense for Rainford to kill Zaroff when he can. For instance, Rainsford realizes that Zaroff is suggesting that him and Rainsford should fight each other. “‘Tonight, said the general, ‘we will hunt- you and I’”, “‘You don't mean…’ cried Rainsford… ‘Your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine’”(Connell 6). If someone wants to kill a person and the other person knows
In the story “The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell when rainsford was trying to survive in the woods from being attacked by a General named Zaroff, he thought about ideas to not be track down, and traps to capture General Zaroff. It was quite hard because General Zaroff had a great technique in finding his prey and he had great skills in tracking footprints, even in the dark. Rainsford used some of his own ideas in trying to defend himself from General Zaroff, others might think Rainsford murdered Zaroff.Strongly understand that Rainsford was trying to protect himself from Zaroff because, Zaroff was trying to play some sort of game to try to kill him. Here are some reasons why he didn’t murder General Zaroff while other believe he did.
When the fight starts, he stumbles around the ring like a drunken baby. He is bleeding from the nose and mouth, and cannot tell if his body is covered in blood or sweat. The room is filled with cigar smoke and angry drunk men yelling at the black boys to hurt each other. This sounds like a true nightmare, he cannot hear, see, or smell.
Rainsford overcomes many obstacles, and in return he receives that special feeling of satisfaction in his body. To start, he overcomes the thought of him being weak. Furthermore, he conquers learning the value of even an animal’s life. Not to mention, he defeats becoming the hunted, when he is the hunter. In the short story Sanger Rainsford outwits General Zaroff in the battle of “The Most Dangerous
In conclusion Rainsford was only protecting himself and the people around him. So yes, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff. The quote "character is what you are in the dark" relates to Rainsford because if he hadn’t gotten hunted he never would have felt the fear nor anger to Kill General Zaroff, which needed to be
Jack Dempsey was best known for his intriguing knockouts and his fists of steel (“Biography”). In his fight against Jess Willard, former champion, Dempsey knocked him down seven times within three minutes (Smith). This was the boxing match that began Dempsey’s reign as heavy weight champion of the world (Hadden 161). After the fight he earned the nick na...
What I mean by this is that the story confirms that on page 75 it says , “Then he turned his back on the tree and walked carelessly away, back along the trail he had come.”. This surely shows that Rainsford got lucky because even though they are to hunt each other, General Zaroff seen Rainsford in the tree and he did not tend to end his life with the pistol that he had in his hands, he just walked away. Another statement from the story is towards the end and it states, “I am still a beast at bay.” this shows that he is lucky to still be standing alive and not dead because towards the last paragraph of the story he kills his enemy and Rainsford gets the bed for
A good thing to learn about rainsfords choice was that in total he did more right than wrong, Rainsford killed Zaroff because he knows that he will fight back and possibly kill Rainsford and more innocent humans. Rainsford did not only think about himself, he thought about what damage Zaroff has already done and what Zaroff can still do. Our society struggles to make sure that people are using their moral and ethical compasses correctly like for example, the Dakota Access Pipeline vs Standing Rock Sioux event. Some people don't care about the Native American’s water supply and think its ok to possibly contaminate the water in the future for the cause of oil, but as of now the US is saying that they will try and reroute the pipeline so it won't be able to contaminate the water supply. That decision was made by people that used their ethical and moral
G. Zaroff is untrustworthy because in the end after Rainfords has beaten him he still has to fight him. He shows this when Rainsford meets him in the bedroom the General says “I see, Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in a very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford…..” This means that he didn’t keep his promise of letting him go after three days and still made him fight.
So, I got ready for my next match, which was against Jeff Petro from Wray, CO. As we warmed up in the same corner, I looked at him with some fear to tell you the truth. This guy was ripped, ...
