What is the Albizia Julibrissin? The Albizia Julibrissin also know as the Mimosa Tree or the Persian silk tree is originally grown in the southwest and eastern Asia. It grows through spring and summer and in at a fast rate. It can grow in between 10 to 15 ft tall. It also has the name of the ‘ night sleeper’ as its bipinnate leaves fold up at night and during rainstorms. Bipinnate leaves have leaflets that are further subdivided in a pinnate arrangement. The flowers are pale to deep pink and form silk-like clusters. This fast-growing plant has weak bark and branches, which will possibly fall on people who walk nearby this tree. If used in traditional Chinese medicine, there are three ways of preparing it. The first two ways are to make tea out of the Albizia Julibrissin flower. The first way of making tea is fairly simple, just take the fresh flower and brew in hot water for around six to eight minutes. Honey or sugar can be added for taste. The second way of brewing the Mimosa tree flowers into tea includes other plants such as White peony root, Suanzaoren, Bo Zi Ren. This method takes more time to brew. First of all, the three plants other than Albizia are to be put into boiling hot water. Then it should be boiled for around six minutes. While those plants are boiling, place some Albizia in a cup. After the three plants are finished boiling, remove the plants and pour the leftover water into the cup with Albizia. This tea is to help people with insomnia or just people who generally cannot get good sleep. The third method is to make Albizia congee, this method consists of using albizia, white rice and red sugar.
