In the beginning, the main character, Thomas, has his memory wiped so he doesn’t know anything. Over time though, he begins to accept where he is (the Glade) and that the people in the Glade have nothing but each other. Thomas also adapts to the Glade’s slang, and talks like a Glader. He also saves the lives of some Gladers who are his friends, such as Alby. At the end Thomas became a sort of leader, trying to make the best decisions when the rest of the Gladers didn’t know what to do. Thomas talks to the other Gladers like someone would talk to their friends or family, and Thomas does his best to help protect the Gladers. Thomas is hard and cold to the people from WICKED, as at the end one of their workers kills Chuck, one of Thomas’s best friends at the Glade. He also has a crush on a girl named Teresa, and her and Thomas work together during the book.
The main idea of the story is that the Gladers need to get out of the Maze. At first you see all the Gladers doing different jobs to help each other survive. One of the jobs is a runner. Runners go out into the Maze and they map it, trying to figure out a way to get out of the Maze. They leave a sunrise and come back during meals. Thomas wants to become a runner, and eventually he does, after saving Alby and showing Newt, Alby, and Minho that he does have the skills to become a runner. Thomas learns the ropes of being a runner and maps out sections of the Maze. Eventually, he and Teresa figure out the code of the Maze, and with help from other Gladers they put the code together. When the Gladers figure out the code, they attempt to escape and eventually do, with some Gladers dying. I think the author chooses to order the events this way because he wants to keep the sort of mystery he has going on in the book, with having the Gladers trying to figure out how to get out of the Maze and I think if the events were in a different order it would ruin the story.

Klunk - a word used as an insult; comes from the sound poo makes
Shuck face - a word used as an insult, like calling someone an idiot
Greenie/Greenbean - a word that the Gladers call the newbie of the Glade
Shank - an insult which is commonly used
I think the author came up with these slang because he didn’t want to use swear words and he wanted to show how the Gladers had developed their own way of life, their own civilization, including their own language.

It was cold, dark, and he had no idea what was going on all he can remember partially of his name. He had started hearing conspicuous noises. He then looked at the sides of the chained wall. He saw this terrifying creature, then jolted back as soon as he saw it. Everything had just stopped and the top of the room opened up. This guy had then jumped down and brought him up and said, “Day one greenie.” As soon as he got up he started to run. But after 5-10 seconds he then fell. The guy who brought him up told him, “As long as you’re here you’ll never run again.”

This story is in chronological order. This author may have picked this because It is a way to get his point across easily. If something is in chronological order it means it goes from the event that happened first- the event that happened last. The author could have also done this because the last event can’t be separated from the other events. By this I mean it is woven into the other events and it wouldn’t make sense without the other events.
Hey you, Yeah… YOU! Would you want to live in a society where you live in a box for your entire life, and mean absolutely nothing to the just about anyone? For science right? NOPE! Obviously, Societies fall as a result of a corrupt government, Failing Social Structure, and Sickness. It is due to these factors that many great societies such as Greece, Rome, and the society depicted in the book Maze Runner fall.
For instance, when the people of the Glade discover that Ben got stung by a Griever, they immediately bring him to the entrance of the maze with bad intentions: Ben cries, “Please don’t! Please don’t do this!” (Ball) The boys began to use long sticks to usher Ben into the maze while it closes, intending to trap him in there. Under those circumstances, Chuck looked very disappointed and so ashamed that he walked away from what was happening. This practice displayed the savagery that goes on inside the Glade and how Chuck doesn’t believe that what the boys did was morally right. Furthermore, upon Teresa’s arrival, came the antidote to “the changing” (Ball). When a Griever stung Alby, Thomas used this cure on him in hopes to save him from the infection. Had the Gladers not jump into such ruthless actions so quickly, Ben would still be alive. To emphasize, Chuck also paid a visit to Thomas in the pit: “It’s just me, you’ll run better on a full stomach.” (Ball) Chuck’s concern for Thomas’s well-being supports his innocence because nobody else cared to bring Thomas food. Chuck acts like a brother figure to Thomas and these bonds need to grow throughout the community. In The Maze Runner, Thomas recalls nothing of his life except for his name. He finds himself surrounded by a bunch of boys. Like all the other Gladers, Thomas appears in the Glade terrified and disoriented. However, he senses a powerful bond to the Maze. He quickly exhibits courage and confidence when he saves Alby and Minho from the Grievers after they had to spend the night in the Maze.
In my view The Kite Runner is an epic story with a personal history of what the people of Afghanistan had and have to endure in an ordinary every day life; a country that is divided between political powers and religiously idealistic views and beliefs which creates poverty, and violence within the people and their terrorist run country. The story line is more personal with the description of Afghanistan's culture and traditions, along with the lives of the people who live in Kabul. The story provides an educational and eye-opening account of a country's political chaos. Of course there are many things that are unsaid and under explained in this tragic novel which, in my observation, is an oversimplification. There is also a heavy use of emotional appeal, and an underlying message. This is a flag for propaganda.
In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, was a pretty decent book and really kept my interest most of the time. It was about a group of English boys trapped on an island after a plane crash. When they first realize they are on the island they are ecstatic, no adults, no rules, and it seemed as if they treated the predicament as a game. They build fire, feast, and make rules. As the novel continues, the boys are beginning to venture from civilization and go towards savagery. I believe the overall point of the book was civilization versus savagery and was developed throughout the novel. Fear began to spread throughout the island and it takes control of the boys’ lives and really seemed as if it caused them to destroy.
Every day, struggle charges into peoples’ lives, causing rage, ruin, and wreaking havoc. Struggle is in every world, whether it’s on Earth or in a book, such as Divergent. Divergent, written by Veronica Roth, takes place in a dystopian world where a civilization splits its population into five factions that represent their beliefs: Abnegation for selflessness, Amity for peace, Candor for honesty, Dauntless for bravery, and Erudite for intelligence. After the main character Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior goes through Dauntless initiation, she learns that Erudite is planning an attack on the Abnegation people. In order to significantly portray struggle in Divergent, the literary devices foreshadowing, mood, and conflict were used.
The beginning of this book puzzles the reader. It doesn't clearly state the setting and plot in the first chapter; it almost leaves the mood open to how the reader interprets it. In the romance story The Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks, the plot then shifts from a nursing home to a small town -- New Bern, North Carolina. It baffles the reader so much that it urges one to read on. The romance of Noah and Allie in this book is so deep and complex that it will bring a tear to the eye of any reader.
The Maze Runner by James Dashner is a science fiction novel that includes action and thriller. The novel is about a sixteen year old boy named Thomas who wakes up with no memory from where he came from or who he is or what he was doing there and in a metal cage box surrounded by many teenage boys looking at him weirdly. Throughout the novel there is many science-fiction themes and characteristics displayed such as futuristic technology, alien, robot like creatures environmental and social changes also unrealistic and fictional events.
The Hunger Games novel written by Suzanne Collins reflects significant issues in the reality world nowadays which relate to the humanity, the poverty, the violence,… It describes the issues through the characters and what happens in the story, and the most significant issue occurs throughout the novel is the gap between rich and poor people. In the beginning of the novel, Suzanne Collins describes clearly the scene of the poverty, the terrible fear of the 12-district’s villagers, in contrast to the wealthy of the Capitol’s citizens. The inequality of social classes becomes the theme of the novel because of its relation and the effects to the plots of the story. And the reason, which leads to that issue, is the policies of the dictatorship government controlled by the Capitol. The Capitol’s operation has affected the villagers’ rights, has made the districts become poorer and has kept them away from development. The Hunger Games novel’s theme – the inequality of social classes – is proved by the details in the story, which becomes a huge problem for the poor districts. This essay will examine what happens in the novel and why there is a big gap between people in one country, Panem.
The novel The Maze Runner by James Dashner begins with a teenage boy waking up in an elevator who has no memory of the past, only that his name is Thomas. When the doors of the elevator open up he is pulled into a humongous square surrounding, called the Glade, by a group of teenage boys. The boys in the Glade refer to themselves as the ‘Gladers’. Thomas learns that the Gladers have lived in there for two years and that the Glade is located in the center of a maze which contains a labyrinth of high walls that move during the night and deadly creatures called grievers. The Glade is led by two boys, Alby and Newt; they both maintain order in the Glade by enforcing strict rules and jobs that keep the Gladers busy. A day after Thomas’ arrival an unknown girl arrives in the Glade. This shocks everyone because the Gladers only receive a new person every month, never within the same week. This also shocks everyone because she was the only girl in a maze full of boys. The girl also gives a message that everything is going to change and that she is the last one ever. Right after her message she immediately falls into a coma. The arrival of the girl causes many things to go chaotic including the sun seizing to rise, the Gladers stop receiving supplies from the creators of the maze, and the doors of the Glade that protect the Gladers from the grievers at night stop closing. When the girl, Teresa wakes up she informs Thomas that they both knew each other in the past and that the maze was a code. Thomas and the people who run around the maze to map out the labyrinth, the runners, look through the archives of the maps and find out the code.
