Every year, there are at least 42.5 million adults in the U.S. are diagnosed with some sort of psychological disorder. A psychological disorder can have a wide range of conditions that affect mood, behavior, and thinking. Psychological disorders, also known as mental disorders or mental illness, are more common than people tend to think (Nevid & Rathus, p.263).
There are wide ranges of psychological disorders that can cause more than the usual amount of anxiety, depression, and bipolar mood disorder. These disorders are major sources of personal suffering that not only affects those diagnosed. Their loved ones also suffer as well as the economy due to financial burdens. Psychotherapy consists of five broad categories which are psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapies, behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, humanistic therapy, and integrative or holistic therapy. Psychotherapy helps those with disorders by having them talk to medical professionals such as: psychiatrist, psychologist, or other mental health providers. This is also known as talk therapy or counseling. Mr. Harvey is a serial killer and rapist who stalked his victims and feels no remorse for what he has done. He would often build doll house as an outlet to divert his sexual fantasies. Considering that, Mr. Harvey rather act on his impulses, the best psychotherapy to suit him is biomedical therapy. Although, Testosterone-lowering medication reduces sexual urges it will not stop them, therefore they would need a secondary treatment such as Cognitive therapy. “the more therapy the better; that is, people who have more psychotherapy tend to fare better than people who have less of it” (Nevid & Rathus, p. 315).
