The Long Road to Law School
Many college students know exactly what field to enter after graduation and have been preparing for that field over the course of their entire college career. However, I had difficulty discovering a career field rewarding enough to devote my entire life to, a career field worthy of education. While I had always considered pursuing the law and majored in public policy as an undergraduate, I was never passionate about it. I didn't have clear goals, and it seemed to me as if my degree and my circumstances were pushing me into studying the law; I needed to rediscover why I fell in love with the law in the first place.
As a college senior, I took the LSAT because all of my classmates were taking it. I did not prepare, and I really did not want to attend law school after college; thankfully, my low LSAT score guaranteed this. I needed to understand more about life before I could give myself to a career. After being in school for about two decades, I felt completely out of touch with reality and did not think I would ever find career direction by attending more schooling. With these thoughts in mind, I determined I needed real-world experience to help me find the direction I so desperately sought.
I accepted an investor relations position in New York that tested both my intelligence and my work ethic. The first few months moved at a hectic pace as I attempted to acquire knowledge of my new pursuit and to control the responsibilities assigned to me. However, I quickly adjusted and maintained a schedule of seventy-hour workweeks. Because of my hard work and growing expertise, my colleagues began to acknowledge me as an important member of the organization and my opinion became respected and sought out. This respect provided me with a great deal of confidence, and I began to realize that I had unlimited potential. I had finally regained the attitude necessary for success, and my recent LSAT score is a testament of this self-awakening.
While I may not have taken the direct route to law school, I took the course that suited me well.
As I became more involved with campus life, I couldn’t find a way to immerse myself in preparing for a career in law. While I knew why I wanted a law degree, I couldn’t conceptualize what I wanted to do with it. Prior to college life, my familiarity with the legal system was by way of internships with judges and lawyers. Clearly, that traditional route perked my interest but not my passion. Living with the athletes affirmed my interest in their culture. I began to immerse myself in subjects surro...
By being accepted into the Liberty Honors Program, I could better prepare myself for what my future holds. Choosing the right school is imperative today, especially because of our volatile economy which has limited the amount of jobs available to college graduates. By being accepted, I trust that I will be more than ready for the real world after I graduate. Currently, I am planning on majoring in English and minoring in Government with the goal of pursuing a career in law. I want to be a lawyer so that I may stand up for others in the daily battles of life. I am confident that my conscientious and compassionate personality will help me thrive as an attorney. I also believe that I have many skills required to be a successful lawyer, such as memorizing things quickly and commun...

All Stories take place at a certain time and place, a certain setting. The setting of a story helps us to better understand the characters involved in the story. The setting also gives us insight as to why the characters feel, act, and react as they do. The setting in Amy Tan's "A Pair of Tickets" and Flannery O'Connor's "Everything That Rises Must Converge" explores the relationship of place, heritage, and ethnic identity to give us better insight into the feelings and actions of the characters. The more we know of the setting, and of the relationship of the characters to the setting, the more likely we are to understand the characters and the stories themselves.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The Scarlet Letter, many of the characters suffer from the tolls of sin, but none as horribly as Hester's daughter Pearl. She alone suffers from sin that is not hers, but rather that of her mother's. From the day she is conceived, Pearl is portrayed as an offspring of vice. She is introduced into the discerning, pitiless domain of the Puritan religion from inside a jail; a place untouched by light, as is the depth of her mother's sin. The austere Puritan ways punish Hester through banishment from the community and the church, simultaneously punishing Pearl in the process. This isolation leads to an unspoken detachment and animosity between her and the other Puritan children. Thus we see how Pearl is conceived through sin, and how she suffers when her mother and the community situate this deed upon her like the scarlet letter on her mother's bosom.

My overall GPA in my undergraduate degree does not provide an accurate representation of my capability as a law school student. I started at San Francisco State University as a civil engineering major. I struggled with my engineering courses, which is demonstrated on my transcript in the fall of 2013. I did not change my major to find something that would be less challenging; I changed it to something that I was more interested in. Business administration (decision sciences) is a rigorous undergraduate program, but this program was more aligned with my interests and abilities. The years following my major change, specifically my final three semesters in 2016, is more representative of my potential as a student.
Throughout the beginning of this semester I have looked at how individuals behave within business organizations. Through various exercises and results, I have found a number of patterns within my behavior and interests. I have become aware what interests me, and a number of skills/abilities I was oblivious I had. This reflection and in class exercises has allowed me to expand my skills, abilities, and behaviors, well fitting them into prospective future employment.
Why did I choose to come to college? I choose to come to college so I could further advance my skills and career opportunities. When first coming to college I thought it was going to be a piece of cake, but was I wrong. You had to already know how to study, take test and have perfect time management skills, and I did not have any of those. I ended up dropping many classes my first year in college and failing one or two, and not having that great of a grade point average. In spring 2012 I was automatically enrolled in the strategies for academic success here at Florida State. When I was placed in this class I thought it was the end of the world, I thought I was considered one of Fsu’s dummy student. But my enrollment in the SLS1122 course here at FSU impacted more then I expected. The things I learned in this course have lead me to succeed at many different things. I learned that every single person in college has a different set of Talents, experiences, achievements and unique points of view in which makes them different from other students in college. These are some of the qualities...
In the midst of that, I did some work that intrigued me in the computer area and decided to take a proficiency test to determine if this field was a suitable fit for me and I passed with flying colors. Already a student at DePaul, I decided to apply for the Computer Career Program certification to get a jump start on getting a new position. With the 9-month program complete, I found a new job several months later. I now needed to take a step back and decide where I wanted to go with my schooling and degree. While I could have continued to pursue a degree in IT, I decided to enroll in the SNL program instead to take advantage of my work experience and obtain a liberal arts degree. With numerous breaks in between classes, I always came back when things settled
The point of view in which a literary work is presented in tells the audience about the narrator and whether they’re unreliable, reliable, or naïve. Point of view also determines if a literary piece is written in first-person or third-person. In literature point of view is important because with it the audience can form an understanding of what is being told in the story and form an opinion about the characters, setting, and tone. For example, when a story is written in first-person narration the reader is able to put themselves in the narrator’s position. If a story is written in a third-person narration, then the reader knows that the story is being told from a bird’s eye view standpoint. Three short stories that have a variety of points
Hospitality Management is not without its merits, but I found myself most engaged in the law courses I took along the way. Long nights of interminable reading and research gave way to animated case study discussions in class. Powering through reading assignments became easier with time, and through these classroom exchanges I discovered that my passing interest had become a passion. Despite the impending fear of taking on the biggest loans I’ll have ever seen in my life up to this point, I strongly feel that law school is the next step. That initial interest in my mother’s law books, a desire to help people, the drive to solve difficult problems, and my ambition to pursue a professional career have all culminated in this choice for me. I know how scary it is to feel overwhelmed, taken advantage of, and helpless. I do not presume to have figured out exactly which type of law I would like to practice, but I seek to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to serve others facing hard
...hat law school requires tremendous effort and time, no matter what law school into which they are accepted. The aspects of the practice of law have changed significantly from that which was considered in colonial times, where students of law, perhaps unqualified, could easily be licensed to practice. This transformation of the legal system has strengthened our trust in American law, and continues to challenge honest, qualified lawyers around the nation.
The academic journey from my childhood up to my ongoing college experience was an important role in defining who I am as an individual. Like any other person, I eventually gained the understanding and importance of essential qualities like time management, work ethic, developing strong mental mindset, and many other things throughout my years of education. Fortunately for me, I became aware of these things much earlier than my peers around me. However, being aware of these things was only a fraction towards success. Over time I’ve realized that the most critical part of success was gaining the discipline and willpower to apply these lessons and concepts.
We are told that when college is over we enter the real world. What does this mean? An aspect often associated with the “real world” is a career. Fast forward to graduation day and for four years or more you have been working on a degree. Let’s say that this degree is intended on being applied to the field of law. Now you need to figure out what you can do with it. Going in, you may or may not have had a substantial amount of knowledge about the literacy practices involved in being a lawyer. The readings, writings and ways that lawyers speak can differ from other professions. This is okay because you are able to analyze these practices now.
