There are many fascinating events and people that make up American history. Some events have changed the very ways that American values have formed and many people have risen to the challenges of their time to make a better country for every American citizen. George Washington was one of those people. He is widely known as one of the founding fathers of America. George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the oldest son of Augustine and Mary Washington. George Washington lived through and was part of many of America’s first couple defining moments in history. He served as a politician, Army officer, and became the first President of the United States. His time as an Army officer had its ups and downs but Washington successfully made it through those days to become one of the greatest names in American history. Dating back from his childhood all the way through his sixty-seven years of life, George Washington was instrumental in defining the many facets of America’s rich history to include having served in the French and Indian War (1754-1758), served time as a Virginia politician (1759-1774), served in the American Revolution (1776-1781), and became the first American President (1789-1797). George Washington laid the foundation and shaped America into an independent democracy and his hard work and dedication is extremely valued still today.

Much of George Washington’s childhood is unknown. The earliest accounts of his life show that his father died when Washington was 11 years old. This saddened Washington and he moved around and stayed with many different households for a couple of years before settling with his half-brother, Lawrence, at Mount Vernon.
