Michelangelo Buonarroti Michelangelo Buonarroti was born on March 6, 1475, in Caprese, Italy and died on February 18, 1564 in Rome, Italy. His father worked in the Florentine government and his mother passed away when he was 6. As quoted from the Encyclopedia of World Biography, “Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) was the greatest sculptor of the Italian Renaissance and one of its greatest painters and architects.” (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 1) In his time along with Leonardo da Vinci, he was one of Florence’s top artists. Michelangelo made many pieces of art, many which are still well known to this day. He is an outlier, a person who stands out more than other people, because even though there were many artists and sculptors, he is one of the few artists that are extremely well known. Michelangelo’s most obvious “key of success” is opportunity. When he was 13, he became the apprentice of Domenico Ghirlandaio, one of the most famous painters in Florence.
