Emily Trippeer September 26, 2017 Dr. Becker English 111 The Legacy of President Obama. When looking back at the legacy of the Presidents, how can you tell what they will be remembered the most for? Especially when most people can’t agree on it. Or if most people don’t even like the President at the time. President Obama did several things during both terms of his Presidency. One of the first things were becoming the first African American President in the United States history in 2008. During his campaign, “he campaigned on the promise of hope for a better world; a more peaceful world which embraced open communication, plurality, and diversity.” When President Obama got elected there was some hope for the fellow Americans and there was …show more content…
But a few things that he did while the President were pretty amazing even if other people say that what he did weren’t “amazing” things or if they didn’t agree with his choices. During his presidency, he did many things like, healthcare. Healthcare is a very important thing for many Americans. He made a statement “… It will provide more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance for those who don’t. And it will slow the growth of healthcare costs for our families, our businesses, and our government.” -President Obama addressing the Joint Session of Congress in 2009. In 2010 Obama created the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) on March 2010, by doing this it increased the coverage of healthcare insurance for many Americans. The next thing Obama covered was drugs and crime. “… African- Americans and whites, for the same crime, are arrested at very different rates, are convicted at very different rates, and receive very different sentences… That’s a substantive issue and it has to do with how we pursue racial justice.” -Senator Obama, 2008. Something he really wanted to eliminate was racial profiling and drugs especially cocaine. Obama passed the Fair Sentencing Act in 2010 it eliminated a five-year mandatory sentence for the first-time cocaine …show more content…
All he really wanted in the United States and around the world was peace, and for a clean Earth. He wanted to make this a better place. When there was something wrong like a natural disaster, for example, he and Michelle would be talking about what they could be doing to help those people and would personally go help people. Nothing would be better when President Obama would be at an event and start singing or cracking jokes with the crowd to lighten the mood or to make everybody’s days. During the two terms, he was an amazing president and did so much more than what I have written in this paper. I am glad that there was so many young people and kids that looked up to him. They wanted to pursue their dreams just like he did and I think that’s really amazing to have so many young people in America wanting to be like you. Knowing that if they really try and put everything into something it can turn out to be something big and amazing. Watching President Obama change over the years, during his terms, is heartbreaking. Having so many people watching every move that you’re making is stressful. But he did an amazing job of not showing if he was worried about something, or if he was really tired. He kept everything “under control” and didn’t let everybody see that side of
The purpose of an “inaugural address” is to inform the people of his or her intentions as a leader. Two of the most prominent inaugural addresses throughout history are Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s and Barack Obama’s. Franklin Roosevelt’s inaugural address stands the test of time because it gave the American people hope that they may overcome the terrible Great Depression. Similarly, Barack Obama’s address is well known because it inspired millions that we will be lifted out of economic crisis, but it was also remembered as the first inaugural address from an African American president. The inauguration speeches of Franklin Roosevelt and Barack Obama use the rhetorical devices parallelism, allusions, and emotive language to convey their messages
Another is his healthcare bill, which helped many low income families afford the healthcare they needed. Known as the Affordable Healthcare Act and later as Obamacare.
President Obama was no different. Five weeks after the election, President Obama met with his economic and political advisors that presented him with their reports of the rapidly deteriorating economic conditions and their plan to hinder the economy from collapsing. President Obama delegated the legislative work to party members and committees because, as a former legislator, he believed that giving Congress discretion in writing the bill would contribute to its enactment (Wayne, 2013). “In general, crises, when they first occur, enhance opportunities for presidential leadership” Stephen J. Wayne stated in Rivals of Power: Presidential-Congressional Relations. “Members of Congress, much like the general public, look to the president and rally behind him” (Wayne, 2013). At first, president Obama hit the ground running after he won the election, and immediately started to figure out with his advisors on how to get the United States back on its feet again. And Congress members look up to the president just as much as American citizens do when the United States faces a crisis. Which in turn can boost the president’s and Congress’ relationship to American citizens. However, Obama’s operating style spawned criticism from both the Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats companied that he did not give much support for their
Every commander in chief of the United States is remembered for just few seminal events or moments of their presidency. Bill Clinton will forever be associated with sex scandals despite the golden economy he presided over. John F Kennedy is considered a hero because of his handling of one moment in time (the Cuban missile crisis). George W Bush is no different. Two events have ruled his time in office and I suspect they will be his legacy. I am of course talking about 9/11 and the resulting war in Iraq. Bush’s presidency has been one of extremes as he has received both the highest and lowest approval ratings since polling began, ranging 90% immediately after the September 11, 2001 attacks, to 28% in June 2008.
In the beginning of the speech Barack Obama reflects back to where his parents and grandparents came from and what they did as their occupation. Obama shows pathos, logos and ethos many times throughout his 2004 keynote speech. He also spoke on why his mother and father gave him the name that they gave him. By doing so, Barack Obama showed pathos throughout the speech and got his audience to know him a bit before pursuing the Democratic Party to vote for John Kerry. He appeals to his audience by mentioning that his parents are both passed away, and from the look of things that did not stop him from standing where he was that day with pride and sadness:
Obama has striven to make it easy and affordable to provide healthcare for people in need of it. The United States changed the American health care system. Obama’s main purpose was to provide the Americans with health care that they can afford and also health insurance. Reducing the health care spending is essentially the goal he was going for in the United States. The Obama Healthcare was signed into law on March 23, 2010. It provided benefits and protection that comes along with the healthcare and the setup with health insurance where it can be easily purchased. The Obama care helps most small businesses and the economy because it’s an affordable program.
Obama goes on to say “We cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together.” He believes that this is the time to change, and a new generation governed by racial minorities. Obama support these claims by reiterating his own beliefs and those of the American nation. “I would not be running for President...
President Obama’s Sunday night speech was about three-quarters of what the cynics and his critics expected. The lone bits of good news were the president’s belated acknowledgement that the Fort Hood shooting was terrorism – not “workplace violence” – and that he didn’t announce any new executive orders dealing with gun control. For starters, the optics of this speech were very strange – why stand in front of the desk in the Oval Office? Did he get poked or get makeup in his left eye right before he went on air? He seemed to be squinting. The only other time the president addressed the country on Sunday night, he announced the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. One expected something new, groundbreaking, or different. Instead, he offered the
One of the most famous speech of all time is the Gettysburg Address. “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”. The quote shows president Lincoln’s extraordinary leadership and Progressive ideals. The president as a whole is very intellectually educated how to restore faith in the war. The president signed the Homestead Act of 1862 which allowed the poor to obtain considerable easier.“The Homestead Act of 1862 was passed in Lincoln’s presidency. It gave the applicant ownership of land at little or no cost”.This was Lincoln's underrated Accomplishments as president because he helped the lower class of america and ensured that the Minorities have a chance after they hold their freedom. Another one of Lincoln's underrated achievements during his presidency was him laying the stepping stone for Reconstruction. One of the most humbling presidential moments in history is when Lincoln excuse the southerners for their action of seceding the Union. Plenty of people from the Republican Party we're Frustrated with Lincoln because excused the south because he wanted the country to be whole again. Laying the stepping-stones for reconstruction, his powerful speeches and helping the poor through brilliant legislation is why Lincoln is considered the greatest president of all
We are now just past election day, and the media is still buzzing about our new president-elect Donald J. Trump. Protests are happening everywhere, but what is it going to change? That doesn’t matter now because as we say goodbye to our current POTUS Barack Obama, we recap and evaluate what he has done over his 2 term presidency. As a conservative, I feel that President Obama did not do a very good job serving our nation. He had many problems pertaining to domestic policy, foreign policy, platform and ideas for the future, fiscal policy, and relationship with the two political parties.
Just a few years ago, Obama was elected and became the first African American to be president. Obama’s first goal as president was to pulled out some of our troops Afghanistan and Iraq. This past year, Obama Care or “Affordable Care” has been passed and several citizens are discouraged by this policy, but over time accepted the new law.
He left a legacy of helping the people of the United States and his legacy is one of kindness and grace. He really thought about the people and he also lowered the unemployment rate in America by giving more people jobs and creating more jobs as well. He really did dwhat was best for this country. He is for The People, he cares about what is best for the greater good and always tries his hardest. He truly does represent The People. His actions have always been motivated by a desire to do what is best for the majority, even if it meant losing ground with the wealthy, influential or powerful
President Obama’s policies on economy helped make a great president. One of Obama’s main economic policies was characterized by moderate tax increase on higher income Americans. This policy was designed to fund health care, and was mostly successful. Obama’s economic policies also included reforming and reducing the federal budget deficit. Over the two terms served by president Obama, he managed to shrink the deficit by a little under one trillion dollars. Barack Obama’s last policy referring to economy was to improve income inequality. This policy
presidency in 2008 and became the 44th president! In his first term, Obama cut taxes for all American workers and passed the Wall Street reform so that taxpayers won’t bail out big banks anymore. To help make affordable health care reachable, he passed the landmark Affordable Care Act. Obama also made made college education affordable for millions of people. Barack Obama fought for many things. He fought for women’s right to make her own health decisions and for equal pay. He also is the first President to fight for marriage equality. (Barackobama.com) Barack Obama was elected over Mitt Romney, A Massachusetts Governor, to a second term but sadly his approval ratings hit low of 40%. He still accomplish some things though. On February 12, Obama pushed for his policies on “middle class economics”, and on April 17, He pushed for gun control to expand background checks.
43 American presidents later Barrack Hussein Obama II a democrat becomes the first African- American to become president in the United States. He got elected as the 44th president on November, 4th,2008 then re-elected for his second and last term in 2012. Barack Obama was born August 4th 1961 to a middle class family so he knew getting a good education could take him far in life. He attended college then moved to Chicago Illinois where he helped groups of churches rebuild their communities after local steel plants closed. He later attended Harvard Law school and became an Illinois state senator in 1996 and was elected to the U.S senate in 2004. Good presidents that will be looked at as the best want a change for their country for the people in the country and in both of Barack Obamas terms a lot has changed in America a change that shows equality and the goal for change.
