“Leadership will be the most important resource an organization can possess. After all, it will be leadership that determines whether organizations successfully harness the emerging opportunities and overcome the perils that await.” Jay A.Conger – Professor, London Business School.
Leadership plays a major role in determining the success or failure of an organization. Leadership skills can be developed, and learned. Everyone at some point in their life will be asked to be a leader. For instance, arranging an outing with peers, subordinate or family members. This person can be appointed or volunteer. Trends of leadership
Leadership styles changed over the last 10 years, from baby boomers to Generation X, then to Generation Y. Different generations have its own thoughts of belief.
For instance, Baby boomers traits are more motivating and persuasive. As next generation (Generation X) taking over, they demonstrate socially progressive, changed –oriented, and cultural sensitivity. Whereas for Generation Y, masters of abstract and conceptual thinking, highly ambitious, unlike the traditional styles of leadership like during the baby boomers generation.

These attributes make a transformational leader, one that will continuously improve the organization they
The topic of leadership has been explored and written about by thousands of authors who are considerably more qualified than I am to write about the subject. However, I’ve always maintained that developing, evolving and articulating one’s own leadership philosophy is an essential part of a professional’s growth. Through academics and experience, I’ve concluded that leadership is a “soft” skill, more art than science, and that leadership principles can be universally applied. As a topic of discussion, leadership can be ambiguous and seldom does everyone agree on a single definition. Organizations and the people they consist of crave leadership, even if not overtly. Undeniably, strong leadership is essential to achieving

We need to embrace change by having an individual take a leadership role. There can be more than one leader, but at least one person has to realize change is needed for the better and success of others. Another way to embrace change is by bringing the ...
As the Historian of Phi Beta Lambda, I’ve became interested in the numerous styles of leadership. Peter Drucker said “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Upon reading the two books, The Leadership Challenge and Start With Why, I have gained insight on the leadership styles. The Leadership Challenge broke down how leaders should be and components of leadership. Start with Why explained leadership and gave me a clear understanding to the bigger picture in why things are done. I will compare and contrast the different leadership styles stated in each book and provide my own summary of the material I have learned.
The role of leadership can impact an organization performance in many ways. Excellent leadership can propel a company to the fortune five hundred list. For Example, Harpo Incorporated Oprah Winfrey’s company is a successful business that has made billions of dollars over the years. The business consists of several different entities such as the Oprah Show, Oprah Winfrey Network, and The Dr. Phil Show to name a few. This could not have been accomplished with a weak or uneducated leader. Many years ago I heard her give advice to the Williams Sisters. The a...

...nd research from past courses - not for the sake of expediency or laziness - but for the realization that each course has provided a beacon to light my way toward this passion project, further illuminating the path toward what I hope will culminate in a meaningful thesis project. If we take the time to understand and embrace the energy and talent of this influential generation charged with leading us through uncharted and turbulent waters of the 21st century by researching what kind of leadership they aspire to and connect with and whether a different leadership model - crafted from Gestalt methodologies - might better resonate , we may be in a better position to inform the path forward as OD professionals in designing and delivering relevant tools for dealing with the business turbulence of today by being attune to the needs of these future leaders of tomorrow.
I am Sierra Rettenmund and I currently attend Clyde High School. I plan to attend Ohio State University next year to work towards receiving my bachelors degree in dance. I hope to one day perform as a professional dancer and eventually own my own dance studio. In order to be able to run my studio with ease I, along with the instructors I hire, will need to be good leaders. A leader, by definition, is the person who leads or commands a group. There are many qualities or characteristics that play a role in good leadership. If were to fail at portraying these characters I would inevitably fail with running my business.
During our readings in The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner, we are given a look at leadership through stories of inspiring individuals who are viewed as excellent examples of leader. In the first chapter of this book, we learn about the “Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership”, we are then asked to disclose what each of these practices are. Once we have given a brief description of what the practices are, we then must show how they played a part in the spreading of the teachings of Jesus Christ. The first practice of leadership, “Model the way,” gives a look at one of the most important aspects of leadership.
Some characteristics of the baby boomer generation are that they are extremely optimistic and are highly involved, their view of work is that it is self-fulfilling, satisfaction for them comes from being able to make a difference, they are primarily intrinsic, they prefer face to face discussion, they have a very consensual leadership style and they tend to be very loyal people. Characteristics of the millennial generation are that we appreciate clarity and flexibility, we view work as a mechanism for success, we prefer recognition for the work we preform, we tend to be very extrinsic and expect immediate praise, we rely heavily on technology and having a constant connection to the world going on around us, we have a passive-aggressive leadership style and we tend to not be very
One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
Leadership is about organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal (Prieto, 2012). Written below examples of effective communication, team working, delegation, management, planning and organisational skills I have utilized in my placement area:
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Leadership is one of the most important facets in organizations. In most cases, leaders act with respect to organizational culture as well as the codes of conduct that determine the manner in which leaders relate with subordinates. Leadership entails the use of effective communication skills to get activities done in the workplace and to ensure that employees shelve their individual interests for the sake of their organizations’ shared targets. It is the role of leaders to ensure that consumers attain high quality products and services by making certain that members of their firms’ workforce are fully motivated to work effectively and utilize resources in an efficient manner (Bass, 22). With the increasingly sophisticated nature of the corporate world, leadership should not be based solely on the desire to control and coordinate affairs within the workplace, but leaders should also exhibit positive examples and continually monitor the changing trends in corporate governance to initiate the most relevant guidelines. Competitiveness can only be attained when leaders are in a position to set the right standards in their firms and coordinate affairs appropriately by understanding consumer and employee needs.
Leaders of the future will be faced with many challenges. As the world changes, we must adapt the ways in which we face these challenges, and in turn grow as leaders. A leader is not merely someone which commands a group or organization. A good leader exhibits the ability to take an average team of individuals and achieve greatness. Leadership is not supervision or leading. It is the ability to inspire or influence others towards the end goal. As Barendsen and Gardner stated (2006), “the best leaders are individuals who, in their work, exhibit three distinct meanings of good: (1) an excellent technical and professional quality and competence, (2) an ethical orientation, and (3) a completely engaged sense of fulfillment and meaningfulness” (p. 266). Good leaders must utilize all of these traits in order to meet the challenges of the future. A few emerging challenges that future
