There are many great works from different time periods. Two specific time periods to look at are the Romanesque, Gothic and Classical Greek. Both have similar techniques and style but both also have many differences. The two pieces of work that the similarities and differences are evident are The Last Judgement, west tympanum of Saint Lazare and The Temple of Zeus east pediment. Both these works of art have similar styles and technique, but also have differences. Although both works are from different time periods, both share similar styles. In the Last Judgment you see on the door bands that tell a story. The artist tells the story through carving bands where each level or band tells another part of the story. The all the characters of prophets are seen from a profile and christ is seen at a frontal view. This signifies superiority God is made bigger than the others because he is higher on the totem pole. Similar to The Temple of Zues where Zues is front and center and made bigger than the other Gods because he is the most powerful and superior. The Last Judgement is a carving in a door telling a story of prophets and Gods power, where as, The Temple of Zues is Sculptures of free standing Gods carved out of marble. The Last Judgment tells a very detailed narrative, whereas, The Temple of Zues displayed the Gods the pediments themselves do not tell the story. Each sculpture is very detailed to capture the true human form, the band underneath the pediments is where the story is told, but it is the pediments that tend to draw your eye in.
