Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "So much attention is paid to the aggressive sins, such as violence and cruelty and greed with all their tragic effects, that too little attention is paid to the passive sins, such as apathy and laziness, which in the long run can have a more devastating and destructive effect upon society than the others." Laziness is in fact harmful in the long run. It leads to lack of dependency, which can cause drastic consequences to society. This is why solutions must be identified to solve the dilemma of dependency on others in today's youth, particularly in the United Arab Emirates, where this problem prevails.
The question to address in reference to this topic is what caused the lack of independency in the UAE society's youth? As a result of my observations and personal experiences, my general answer would be that Emarati parents have raised their kids to fully depend on anyone but themselves. I agree with this statement to the fullest extent because I believe that parents are role models to their children. The following quote affirms that, "Many children grow up slovenly and lazy because they've learned the patterns from their parents." Laziness. Retrieved April 9 2007, from http://www.livinglifefully.com/laziness.html. Moreover, housemaids or nannies are extremely depended on in terms of housing chores. An example of this is would be an incident that occurred when I was visiting a friend of mine. Her younger brother ordered the maid to go and get him the remote which was less than four meters away. I think house chores should be divided equally among members of the household. In my opinion housemaids are not hired to do everything for particular households, but rather to help out in households where both working parents who have no time to contribute to house work. A supportive opinion to my argument that housemaids should not be held responsible for full contribution to housework is the opinion of the well-known businessman Mr. Abdulghaffar Hussain [Founder and CEO of Green Coast Enterprises] who stated that "U.A.E.'s children should learn to depend on themselves and not on maids
a maid's job is to help out with the housework, not to be the slave of teenagers who are too lazy to get themselves their own glass of water." Furthermore, when asked about his own experiences as a teenager and how he compares himself to today's youth, Mr. Hussain
Unfortunately, the idle lifestyles that have slowly become more and more of a trend seem to be bringing people down. With so many outside influences on people’s lives, it gives a clear idea of why people succumb to this horrible vice. If people were to transfer their negative energy into achieving their goals they would in turn become much happier people. One has the choice to change envy into something much more rewarding. If one could do that, the causes of this vice would slowly recede into nothing. The change of attitude will improve life as a
This responsibility is passed down from past generations. They are taught to completely run the home, including cooking, cleaning, care taking and handling finances. Somali girls are taught to run the home from around age 7-9. After they are taught about how to run the home, they are expected to take on a significant level of the responsibility of running the home (Lewis, T. 2009). As the young girls get older, they gain more independence and have many physical and cognitive changes. All of these changes allow the mothers to teach them about running the
¨The shoe that fits one person pinches another ; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases¨ (Carl Jung). This quote means, not everybody is the same. Just because one way suits one person, it may not suit another. Individuality means a lot to me because, being different and ¨Weird¨ is okay and not a lot of people understand that. America's´ gift to my generation is individuality.
Did you know that elephant owners in Asia can keep their elephants in their yard with a simple piece of twine and a post in the ground? I’m sure you’re probably thinking, “How is that possible? Elephants are strong, smart, and have potential to do huge things.” The answer has nothing to do with the twine and the post; but it has everything to do with the twine around the elephant’s mind. The thing is, teenagers are a lot like elephants. We are strong, smart, and have incredible potential, but somehow we are held back by a tiny piece of string, held back by a lie; the lie that teenagers are rebellious, good for nothing, lazy bums. Today I am going to be talking about how this lie affects the relationship between adults and teenagers, the relationship between God and teenagers, and finally the relationships teenagers have with each other. If everybody, adults and teenagers alike, work together we can get rid of this horrible lie.
Extensive demographic and cultural shifts have taken place over the past few decades that have made late adolescence and early twenties into a new transitional developmental period known as emerging adulthood for young individuals across industrialized societies. Arnett (2000) argues that emerging adulthood is a “distinct period of the life course” that is “characterized by change and exploration of possible life directions” (469). Additionally, a critical area of identity exploration during emerging adulthood is love and romantic relationships. Arnett contends that “demographic changes in the timing of marriage and parenthood in recent decades has led to prolonged periods of adolescence and delayed adulthood transitions” (470). By postponing
Common law dictates that individuals possess autonomy and self-determination, which encompasses the right to accept or refuse medical treatment. Management of medical treatment can be complicated when the patient’s ability to make reasonable decisions is called into question. Our legal system endorses the principle that all persons are competent to make reasoned decisions unless demonstrated otherwise in a court of law. The capacity to make one’s own decisions is fundamental to the ethical principle of respect for autonomy and is a key component of informed consent to medical treatment (Karlawish, 2016). Determining whether an individual has adequate capacity to make decisions is, therefore, an inherent aspect of all clinician-patient interactions. This paper will discuss the laws that govern the competent patient’s right to choose, the determination of an incompetent patient and decision-making on their behalf, as well as the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program federally mandated by the Older Americans Act.
Through past studies, it has been shown that disconnected youth face many challenges during their development in the emerging adulthood. Challenges such as being a single parent, having an ex-offender status and disability, being low income and basic skills deficient have affected disconnected youth greatly as they struggle academically and during employment. Without academic and career development assistance during this period, disconnected youth are less likely to graduate from high school, attend post-secondary institutions, and/or stay employed for long periods. The present study explored literature related to these issues that millions of disconnected youth have faced. The literature has also reviewed the historical context, current
Rap is one of the most influential genres of music in today’s time. Rappers are looked up to like rockstars and it seems that everyone wants to be just like them. They set the trends, they do what it takes to stand out, and the youth follows. Are the things that these rappers are doing to stand out leaving a positive impact on the youth? I believe that many artists are leaving an extremely negative effect on the youth on their quest to gain “Clout”. Clout is a term commonly used by today’s rappers to describe their power, fame, money and influence. Although this term may not have always been around, the concept has always been present in the world of rap. The newest generation of artists have taken this concept too far in a way that is negatively
There is much debate in the world about the definition of youth. Some groups think of youth as a universal stage of life, while others think it is merely a social construct which alters regionally depending on social conditions. While leaving the term undefined may allow for some freedoms for people, being able to participate in activities that may otherwise be conventionally restricted to a specific age group (older people going to pop concerts and younger people “youth” going to bingo), defining specific parameters can also be beneficial in ensuring the safety and well-being of people who can be left vulnerable by the grey area in laws. Without a definition for the group encompassing youth, it can make law making and policy forming problematic and ultimately end up leaving certain groups of people in society vulnerable and unprotected. But before a definition can be created, youth must be classified as a universal stage of life or a social construct.
While reflecting on Emerging/Young Adulthood I can say that I am at the beginning of this stage. My current age of 19 and I am in the transition process of taking on the responsibilities and the stability of an adult. As the textbook describes I am one of the older adolescents that is seeking for an education which means that I am currently postponing the traditional adult responsibilities. I am seeking for an education because I want to have a well-payed job and because I want to be able to provide my parents and two younger siblings with a better life. Through my experience in college so far, I am able to say that I have gained a lot of knowledge and I hope this continues. According to the textbook the more years of higher education a person pursues the deeper and more
Entitlement is the greatest problem facing today’s generation and should be fixed by educating parents of the importance of giving criticism to their children and teaching the children great responsibility and good work habits that may influence their decisions later on in their lives. Major problems of today’s generation are laziness, disrespectfulness, and self entitlement. Laziness is the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy. Disrespectfulness is the quality of being disrespectful. Self entitlement is when one believes that they have a right to something. There are many names for today’s generation. For example, the “me, me, me” generation or the millennials.
The largest contributor to the modern state of laziness in America's last quarter century or so of youths is in the environments and situations that most have been raised in. The way parenting has been shaped by the post 70’s generation and that even teaching has guided America's youth is more than anything else, downhill. A loss of accountability and sense of direction that was once a cornerstone of American raising is leading to a generation that is at risk of falling through the cracks and it won't even be necessarily their fault. The greatest resource I can provide in support of this is shamefully enough myself and the problems this very scenario is raising for me as I enter a situation where teachers use a firm hand in place of none at all. The only way to fix the plague of misinformation plaguing the new generation is identifying the causes of the issue and seeing how a person can correct these issues personally before they are too far gone.
Have you ever noticed all the different changes of this generation? And parents had been wondering happen to this generation. As if there is a huge gap with our generation and their generation. It is very clear a lot of things have changed today. Everywhere you see is a change from the material things like cell phone and iPod or the newest fashion. due to technological advances a lot of things have change and these changes is good however there are things that went overboard and it is getting out of hand as teenagers today have a lot of negative changes in terms of behavior, values and preferences compared to the older generation.
Women in GCC countries have come a long way in society by establishing themselves in this urban society. At times, it is impossible for these women to manage their household duties. Sometimes, women are forced to work because their male counterparts do not earn sufficient incomes to make end meet. A lot of working mothers, thus, face the difficulties of looking after their young ones. However, most working class women prefer not to work at home because being a homemaker is a herculean task that requires a lot of skill and patience. Since women feel incapable of looking after their children,...
“I am most impressed with someone who can make a decision. Even if the decision turns out not to be the right choice, at least a decision was made”-Donald Trump, the candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 presidential election. Although this quotation seems understandable, the practice of making a decision is not easy. Decision-making will always be needed in life. Dealing with decision should be known to teenagers in order to let them know about its values. Nowadays, most parents think that teenagers are not old enough to think further because of their age are too young. However, parents should gradually let teens make their own decision because it will teach them about independence,
